I have a life-long friend that is also educated, and wealthy, by German standards. Visited him last fall when we were there on vacation. at that time, the refugees were pouring into the country by the trainload. he insisted that they would cause no problems, and that there would be no issues. willful blindness? I dont quite understand it.
my employer has facilities in germany, and as such, I interact with german citizens(engineering types..certainly educated) regularly. they seem to be indifferent about the whole scenario....again...willful blindness? numbed by the EU nanny state? dunno, but the fiddler is about to be paid there.
while we were in munich for the beer, we had opportunity to be near the bahnhof, and a trainload of “refugees” arrived. the local polizei cordoned off an area for them to go to a holding area, and kept them away from the rest of us....mostly tourists milling about, as I recall. not too many kids and grandmas in the group getting off the train from syria. mostly males.
as a side note...there was something disconcerting about german police directing human traffic debarking from a train..

In my mind the horror of Merkel’s open immigration would fall on the poorest and naturally tend to radicalize them against it.
