"..Baltimore is a suburb in Tx?..school bus rides in the morning gotta be interesting"
No, lol, I meant Baytown. I wasn’t reading closely.
Lots of stuff around there is boomable
If I am going to be consumed by flames, I wanna see the fireball coming.
Sheltering with Iced tea on the deck.
Just east of Houston off the 10 fwy right?
If it’s a gasline leak wouldn’t you want to get out of the area and not ‘shelter in place’ as the fumes concentrate ?
I am sheltering in place.
at least until 515pm
I may go out and water the garden, but that is allowed.
....So we Shelter in place a town in Texas? Lol...
The town of Cut and Shoot, Texas is named that for a reason.
Heard of that. How did Dimebox Tx get its name?
BAYTOWN, TX (KTRK) —
Authorities have lifted a shelter-in-place order for residents of Baytown.
On Sunday morning, the Baytown Police Department tweeted that the order is for people in the 5500 block of Bayway Drive between Park and Arbor Streets. If you’re in the area, you’re advised to stay indoors and follow these guidelines.
We’re told the ExxonMobil plant in Baytown is investigating a chemical release, which led to the shelter-in-place. We’re following this story and will provide updates when available.
The community originated in either the late 1860s or early 1870s. The settlement was first known as Brown's Mill, but was later changed to Dime Box.
The origin of the name "Dime Box" stemmed from a custom in which early settlers would use a large, wooden box to forward and receive mail, or order small items from a carrier on horseback traveling to nearby Giddings.
10 cents to mail a letter in 1870s money shows how much cheaper
the mail is now.
PS, for out of state folks. The Texas State Historical Assn. puts out
The Handbook of Texas Online which has several thousand pages of
history and info.
Hope that your own state has a similar project.
REALLY? I know exactly where that is. Had no idea that’s why. So instead of cut and run, cut and shoot? Haha!
Regarding the city of Cut and Shoot, there was no cutting and shooting involved.
A confrontation at the location was narrowly avoided in the 1800’s. When it looked like one was imminent, a young boy decided it was time to get out of there and said, “I’m going to cut out of here and Shoot through those bushes.” Strange, but supposedly true.
Thanks for the update.
