I think this statistical thing is the anchor of American society. It is true...99-percent of society have never shot or even aimed a weapon at anyone. When you do find people who say they have...they are typically former military or cops (probably in the 90-percent range). So you come to this group of .01-percent who are regular people who had an intruder in the house or someone threatening them in the parking lot.
But you can use the other statistics as well. If you live in Chicago, there’s a one in 10,000 chance that tonight while you fill your car up with gas at 11PM....you might get shot. If you were in Coos Bay, OR....at the gas station at 11PM, it’s a one in a billion chance that you will get shot.
If you hang out with Meth-heads....it’s a one in a thousand chance that you might get shot. If you hang around Jewish Rabbis, it’s probably a one in a trillion chance you will get shot.
If you are a non-believer, and hanging around 100 Muslims in the middle of Ramadan....with all of them holding pistols...what do you think your odds are then?
Do both at the same time. Hollywood is easy. Just pass a law (because leftists in Hollywood love laws) that makes it illegal to display any weapon that an average citizen cannot buy in less than an hour in a sporting goods store in the city where the movie is set ( if it’s set in a foreign or fictional country, then use the gun laws of Washington DC). If the story requires a weapon that people can’t buy, then require the producers to use a bright red fake gun and use a sound effect of people saying “pew pew pew”. Suddenly, Micheal Moore and the rest of them would discover the sanctity of the Second Amendment.
And NO explosions because that could trigger someone in the audience.
While I agree with you, my post is directed at those who are suckered in by the ‘militia’ argument. They are, almost without exception, also the gullible types who believe someone when they claim to be quoted out of context (eg Planned Parenthood).
If they want context, then the other Amendments are unambiguous context for the Second ie individual rights are supreme and they include the right to bear arms.
I appreciate your post. I liked it so much I wanted to add my insight to the value of the 2nd Amendment. Please excuse my desire to use your post as a reason to comment. I am sure you know all this, but someone will have a benefit.
The reason for the 2nd Amendment is not ambiguous. It has a very serious purpose. The Left is undergoing their ultimate assault on our right to bear arms, a God-given right. The core Marxists know what they are doing while their fellow travelers have no clue that all of their other rights are protected by the force of firearms, with the 2nd Amendment. With this disregard of the serious purpose of the Constitution, we may see our 1st Amendment taken away after they turn our guns into man-hole covers. Then, they will find themselves in a system that has been tried before and has brought great human tragedy.
I want to make it clear, that in no way do I advocate the anarchy of armed resistance of any kind when there is an intelligent way to solve our problems. When our civilization goes under the powers of Satin we will need more than our guns. Then our resistance will come through the grace of God and his answer to prayer. I have faith the Constitution is the inspired word of God and he will protect it through his willing servants.
I was driving up highway 191 in the state that has the least amount of people in it.
Wyoming.
I looked in my ‘m mirror to check traffic behind me.
A guy in a Cadillac escalade was driving like a manic.
He started accelerating towards me and I kept thinking that he would pass me on the left.
I had to go to the left because if I hadn’t, he would rearended me.
He went into the ditch and when he straightened out he began to accelerate again.
Using my knee to drive,I held my pistol up in clear view, I chambered a round to let him know that I was loaded.
As soon as he saw that, he backed off.
I pulled over when I saw some
HPs and he drove on.
My one and only time I used a weapon to defend myself
Assuming 80 million US gun owners, your percentage would mean that 80,000 people were killed yesterday. A more accurate percentage would be 99.999% or .999999 x 80 million equals 80 killings.
Hillary Clinton: Weapons of war have no place on our streets.
Laz A. Mataz: Muslims are weapons of war.
