but it is the combo with Islam that made this situation nuclear.... without Islam it the self-hatred would have remained inward, or at most a murder-suicide with a lover but not this mass murder motivated by ISLAM
So ISIS’ policy regarding gays in the military is “don’t ask, don’t tell”.
The abject ignorance of Americans regarding Islam makes my brain hurt. Having trained quite a few Muslims from places like Kuwait, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, etc., I can say with absolute certainty that homosexuality is rampant in Islam, especially in the Middle East. It’s considered perfectly normal for an unmarried, adult male to have sex with younger - sometimes MUCH younger males - because it’s not acceptable to have sex with a woman to whom you are not married. (Not that fornication and rape don’t occur, but they have that covered with Sharia when it occurs and the perpetrators get caught; it’s the woman’s fault.) Likewise, sex with animals is almost completely overlooked; a man has to excise his demons and fulfill his needs. “Any port in a storm, don’t ya know.”
I had one student tell me that sex with a young man/boy doesn’t mean that either one of them is homosexual and neither does “going back to the well” if one’s wife doesn’t do it for him anymore. Given the fundamental, i.e., Islamic legal/religious dictates concerning homosexuality, such dichotomies present Muslims with a real dilemma: “Whatever is a jihadist to do?”
The homosexual lifestyle doesn’t need a terrorist to be dangerous.
That said, evil men murder, guns don’t murder.
The left is eagerly pursuing this line so they can spin the story as “mentally disturbed gay man had access to an evil gun he shouldn’t have,” and away from “ISIS-directed jihad pursuing muslim kills gays because Islam says hmosexuality is a sin punishable by death.”
It may very well be true that he was gay, but it doesn’t change the fact that he clearly felt his actions were justified by Islam.

Who could imagine Mateen was a dissed homosexual? Well, when you hang out at pervert bars, generally it ain’t because you are normal.
It does show that being gay doesn’t exempt someone from being a mass murderer.
I wonder if his dad found out and gave him an ultimatum—with the out that there was still a path to paradise.
By the koran, his path to redemption was by slaughtering as many people sharing his deviancy as possible before dying himself.

Additionakky, UNLESS, someone claims to have had homo sex with the perp OR someone claims the per self-identified as homosexual -HE was no homo! Going to a 'gay' bar means nothing.
As an aside it would be interesting to find out the orientation of ALL at the club that night or any other night...
