I agree Cruz ran a brilliant campaign in many ways. I disagree that if Trump had not entered the race Cruz would win. I think without Trump, the media would have framed the narrative and Jeb! would have won easily.
The author thinks Cruz is done. I think Cruz still has a chance if there is a brokered convention.
Otherwise, the author makes some good points.
“The beginning of the end for Ted Cruz”
Or, the end of the beginning. Think Reagan and Ford.
If Trump were to win the presidency and take over the federal government, many millions of Americans will soon regret their vote. They will, perhaps, remember that Cruz is an honorable conservative.
January of 2017 will not be too soon for a conservative to begin the 2020 campaign for president.
I’d say most FRiends liked Cruz at the very beginning until he proved himself to be inept and unlikable.
I do think Cruz ran a good campaign.
2 Things did him in.
1. His infrastructure/organization was his strong suit, and it kept him in the race, but he waited about a month too long to begin attacking Trump. It’s like a basketball coach in a game where the other team is on a roll. You call a time out and made adjustments to kill their momentum. Cruz allowed that Trump momentum to continue.
2. He could have gotten away with misrepresentations here and there, but he was almost a continual misinformation/misrepresentation machine. It became annoying to listen to him speak.
The only reason Cruz is even where he is, is because of the never Trump movement.
Like I said, in my (not always so) humble opinion.
