Performing the works of a different culture used to be called “admiration” or “diversity” or “education.” Now it’s cultural appropriation, whatever that means. They have come full circle. Western performers were once criticized for limiting their performances to Western music. Apparently now the race commissars would limit them to that repetoire. Wait a few years. Soon they will be requiring the inclusion in all concerts of non-Western music performed by non-Western artists without regard to the quality of the music or the skill of the musicians. It’s not about art or culture. To the race commissars, nothing matters but race.
These protesters aren’t “students”...they are bloomin’ idiots.

I thought Hinduism was a religion, not a race or a culture.
Musicians draw inspiration from all sorts of other cultures. Indian music is no different and borrowed musical elements from other cultures too. The only people who try to draw lines and say “you can’t sing/play that” are people who aren’t musicians themselves and probably don’t know a thing about the subject.
So if Condoleezza Rice performs at a piano recital, she must stick with the likes of Erskine Hawkins, Duke Ellington and Fats Domino. If she plays Beethoven, Debussy or Chopin, she will be guilty of “cultural appropriation.”
Something tells me that at some point - and that may be long after we are all dead - white people will have to take up arms or face extermination.

And they are far left authoritarians, much to the dismay of classic liberals. Sargon of Akkad recently compared the SJW movement to the authoritarian right, that they are now a freaking religion, a la “thou shalt not question, no matter how irrational”.

They were protesting using a culturally appropriated language while wearing culturally appropriated clothing, using culturally appropriated writing materials and culturally appropriating a center of learning.
