Then you aren’t reading them as closely on Twitter as I am. And no one would “take the general for granted,” but Trump is not NEARLY as “divisive” as you think. In fact, Rush started to get into this the other day, noting that it just does not jibe with either the polling or the elections so far.

I think that much of his “negatives” are “show biz” negatives.
But that’s another story. No, Jonah, Benson, Hayes are nasty people out to sabotage Trump if he’s the nominee. You bet your bippy they would vote Cankles.

I’m not overly fond of Russians since they moved into my NYC area in droves over the last ten years. Billionaire, bloviating men in bad suits with bling-encrusted wives.

At least the Medicaid/Medicare recipient Russkies of the 70s had a sense of humor.

And where did you have the pleasure of taking advantage of Uncle Sam’s generosity? Anywhere interesting?

Nope. GOPe on Twitter pushing Cruz all the way. Benson, Goldberg, Hayes. They ALL prefer Cruz, because they know they can control him-—maybe not dictate policy to him, but prevent him from doing anything.

If they are for him, right there that should tell you to be against him.

Remember: as soon as Cruz implodes, they’ll all be gone.

Pat Buchanan vs Tom Braden. The original dynamic duo.

I bet a lot of people would be surprised to learn that Braden had a long career with the OSS and CIA. His family was also the basis of the tv show Eight Is Enough.

I don’t do twitter but I totally believe that Trump is divisive.

Don’t know how you can think otherwise. He’s ticked off everyone except his worshippers and everyone who doesn’t worship him, despises him.

Don’t waste too many prayers on that, Miss Marmalade.

If Cruz wins, we will be here and he very well might.

If Trump wins, we will be here to laugh when he breaks all those promises to his pathetic groupies.

After winning election to the Senate, Jackson decided to run for president in 1824. He narrowly lost to John Quincy Adams, supposedly by a "corrupt bargain" between Adams and Speaker of the House Henry Clay, who was also a candidate. Jackson's supporters then founded what became the Democratic Party. Jackson ran again in 1828 against Adams. Building on his base in the West and new support from Virginia and New York, he won by a landslide. Jackson blamed the death of his wife, Rachel, which occurred just after the election, on the Adams campaigners who called her a "bigamist."

There is more....and something very important.

Jackson's presidency marked the beginning of the ascendancy of the "spoils system" in American politics.

Have to agree, Pelham, certainly superior to my intellect and education, because I have just been educated by both of your posts.

Even though I took American History in both high school and college, it seems I don’t really know anything about Jacksonian politics, or really much about Andrew Jackson, or how they relate to what’s going on with Trump currently.

I see that this also lead to the formation of the Whigs, as I have a google page open on it right now, which is very interesting considering what happened to them and how that may relate what might be about to happen to the GOP if things continue on their current course.

So, it looks like I have some reading to do. Thank you for both of your posts on this subject.

I’m not going to laugh at anyone who wins or loses, or at any of their supporters.

That’s not a nice thing you said, altura. It would be nice if we could put things like that aside.

Tell me, did you listen to Rush today? What was your opinion of it? We’re all dying to know.

Or do you not listen to him at all and just come here to cause trouble? Tell the truth now.

“I don’t do twitter but I totally believe that Trump is divisive.”

Successful businessmen aren’t divisive. What Trump is, is highly competitive. He was a very good athlete, good enough to consider playing professional baseball, and athletes of that caliber have highly competitive personalities. It’s part of what we are seeing in this campaign when he is ruthless to his opposition.

My favorite memory of Braden was when Pat, on air, related a story of driving the ridiculously liberal Tom through a black neighborhood in Washington. Tom was scared to death and screaming at Pat to get him out of there! I remember this because ten years later, my husband and our radical friend, Ted, got lost in the south Bronx and Teddy screamed like a stuck pig when blacks approached the car!

Cruz has no path to win unless a crooked party orchestrates it. That will make the night at Varennes look like a petting party. It was the same with your beloved Perry. And when Cruz implodes you will disappear into the ether until the next loser Texan runs for office. Deja vu has nothing on you.

“Jackson’s supporters then founded what became the Democratic Party. “

Martin Van Buren was one of the prominent supporters who put it together out of the remains of the old Democratic-Republican Party.

“spoils system”

That lasted until some time after the Civil War when the Civil Service merit system tried to reign it in some. But the rise of regulatory agencies has made the situation worse IMO

It is implicit in Ted’s history that he will fight to take back Washington. Remember, he doesn’t have any friends in the Senate. Trump said so.

Well actually it's Cruz's history to be ineffectual against the Washington "cartel". He talks a good game but in reality has accomplished nothing. In fact he's made things worse because his actions have hardened the GOP leadership against conservative positions. If he knew how to lead or knew how to persuade things would have been different by now. Jeff Sessions, the premier conservative in the Senate, doesn't think he's up to the job as President. Trump, on the other hand, WILL enact a conservative agenda and Sessions compared him to Cruz and Cruz came up short.
