Here's why I assign a lower percentage than that. I've been following Trump for a long time now. Way before his political run, and way before his silly reality show.
In those days I saw Trump as just another financial commentator. I read his guest articles in magazines such as Forbes, etc. Those articles were always solid and realistic. They made good sense, so much so that I'd quote them to friends of mine. I was that impressed.
But I will note that I was also impressed with Ronald Reagan, and then with Ross Perot. The first one turned out to be a great leader, the second a pathetic dud. So my track record is mixed.
Am I allowed an opinion?
I thought this was America.
Seriously? Now you’re the victim?
He will never build that wsll but he will take your money
Trump will be the anti-Establishment candidate for President.
“Candidness and an intolerance for business as usual (Bernie Sanders employs these qualities as well). The working class has long believed that most politicians - it matters not a whit whether they are Republicans or Democrats - neither speak to them or for them.”
POS Socialist Sanders should be in prison with the rest of the current and former scumbags/elitists/progressives/rinos/representatives/senators who created and/or had a hand in this
Socialism Is Legal Plunder - “The Law” - Frederic Bastiat
Feel the bern, scumbag Sanders.
HOORAY Trump
OK, so on one hand we got guys like Jeb Bush and Mario Rubio, who are certainly nice young fellows, but who are about as inspirational as Mister Rogers. Ted Cruz, is the guy solid conservatives love, but for some reason, too many people just don't like well enough to support. Probably couldn't beat Hillary. Nice, but no cigar.
And then this Trump guy showed up, and when they asked him "What is best in life?", he answered "To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their of their women!"
Who ya gonna get excited about?
Anti-Trumps are globalist elite snobs.
use eminent domain in an illegal wasy to sell uss a race track mr Trumpp I wanna bet on the Quintilla...
pick 5 ponies.
everyones a winner
Nope. I will stick with the constitution
Never a victim
I’m certainly not a snob but I don’t agree with this article. Most people in this country are The Working Class.
They vote Republican because they don’t like Big Government, too many useless agencies, high taxes and interference in private lives.
As for Trump’s appeal, I’ll admit to being at a loss.
I do not see it. I do not understand it.
I was watching CNN for a few minutes this morning and they were talking about Jeb Bush and how he’s now brought his whole family including Dubya into his campaign.
They showed a clip of Donald Trump in his odd, whiny voice claiming that George W. Bush gave us Obama.
I suddenly realized just how much I dislike this man. I voted for Romney with much more enthusiasm than I can muster to vote for him.
I actually think I would prefer to vote for any of the other candidates except Carson and Rubio.
What an odd disaster has befallen us with this awful man.
He is capitalist and there is nothing wrong with that “buyer beware” but Ted is a constitutionalist and he is steadfast.
I am sure that it would work much better this time. /s
The ‘They’ of which you speak consists of a very small percentage of people.
Reagan won an overwhelming majority. We all understood his appeal. He was a good, good man. He was also likable and had the right values.
Trumpists like to toss out that Reagan was a democrat. That was early in his life before he got interested in government. I would consider him a lifelong Republican, unlike Trump.
Can’t anybody see how phony Trump is and how his positions change with the weeks or days ... not even years.
How childish, how petulant, how very unattractive.
Is God mad at us?
There is a slight difference ... Obama was at Harvard.
Ted was Harvard educated.
But Ted is no elitist. He worked his way through school. He did not have wealthy parents.
Making that glib connection holds no water at all.
I had to laugh at your post.
Because I’ve been there with the ball over the fence thing so many times. We lived on the corner and the kids would play in the street and the ball would end up in my yard.
But ... well, stuff happens doesn’t it. There are no kids and no balls where I live now.
I agree. How ironic it is that a man who has lived a life of privilege and inherited tens of millions of dollars is the one who will be teaching them that lesson.
Totally agree with you about the elite.
It’s our fault. We’ve been apathetic, electing the same worn out old senators over and over.
We need to change things. Six years is too long but maybe four would work.
Watch your Senator after you elect him. If he’s like Ted Cruz, if he does what he promised, send him back.
If not, kick his butt out and elect someone else. How long would it take to get decent people? Maybe two election cycles.
“I agree. How ironic it is that a man who has lived a life of privilege and inherited tens of millions of dollars is the one who will be teaching them that lesson.”
How sad it is that you believe that.
I’m not happy about how I feel about Trump. I wish I could share the blithe optimism and hope you people have invested in him.
As Krauthammer (and no I don’t think he’s god) said, he’s not a Republican or a conservative, he’s a Trumpist.
I only hope that Trump finds it to be to Trump’s advantage to do all the good things you think he will do ...
because if it’s not to Trump’s advantage, don’t hold your breath.
Spending a few minutes a few times a decade in a voting booth is not going to accomplish any restraint of government.
It’s pretty clear that most of even the interested people make no attempt to make their voice heard within the GOP. Consequently, they have no idea of how party officials are selected or how platform proposals are considered. If grassroots activism was as dedicated to taking over a party as it is to promoting some fallible candidate, we wouldn’t be in this mess.
