Also from the article...
"His boss confirmed his work ethic: His attendance has never faltered, not one day," plant manager Todd Wilson said recently. "That money, none of it changed him one bit. James is still one of the most loving, caring people I know." What an inspirational story! Hard work is important. Life is tough, but we have it better in America than many other people. Instead of counting on welfare, we need to get out there and do our best, everyday!"
A concern of mine would be he needs to be wary of scum bags that are not as decent as he. This publicity could make him a target of predatory fleecers, and they could just as easily hale from Wall St as Detroit.
Thanks for posting. Great story. I wondered what happened to that guy.
Good for him! Bad for the author. His 21 mile commute (each way!) now takes 12 minutes? He drives 105 mph to work????
Does anyone else not believe this crazy story?
Walk 42 miles round daily?
That’s outside human reality.
A man can walk on average 3 miles per hour over even ground
That’s 7 hours each way for a total of 14 hours round with absolutely no breaks at all.
Combine that with an 8 hour work day and you have 22hours
When does he sleep?
he prizes the friendships at work, and no one would give him a ride home?
I think this story is a bunch of BS. Walking 21 miles would take about 5-6 hours each way. Add that to an eight-hour shift, and you’re up to 18-20 hours, leaving 4-6 hours for sleep, eating and recreation. I’m not buying it.
A great American.
Looks like he can afford season tickets to the Tigers.
It would not surprise me to discover that he has been paying it forward, donating to those in need and keeping quiet about it. He strikes me as that sort of guy.
Wow - Obama should really be taking credit for this. I mean, really, this guy used the roads and sidewalks more than most people. He didn’t keep that job by himself - he needed government help to do it. /s
——at age 57, walked 21 miles to work -—
if true, he walked to where he drew a paycheck
work is another matter.
