Dianthus in bloom has a spectacular fragrance. Clove fragrance and the flowers are attractive as well. Carnations are in the same family. Which calls to mind another deep memory. Clove chewing gum. :-))

Oh we had two Dianthus beds and the smell was great, but I don’t think that they cared much for my too clay-like soil.

The smell is wonderful. They grew in my great grandmother’s garden The fragrance was one reason we loved to play under her Catawba tree. Dainty little flower with lots of smell.
