RUSH: I'm not finally decided on this. But I think the areas of commonality that Donald Trump has tapped into with members of what you might consider to be the conservative base actually, to some voters, are more important than conservatism itself.
And let me give you an illustration of what I mean. Washington, Obama, take whatever issue. Obamacare or illegal immigration. Let's take these two. Let's focus on illegal immigration. I don't think the people in this country who know full well what letting this go on means, care who the solution comes from. If anybody is willing to come along and shut this down and stop this assault on American culture... Because that's what this is. These people are not assimilating. American culture is being not just watered down; it's being altered and changed.
There are a lot of people, and they are a majority of people, who do not want this to happen. They don't believe America is guilty of anything. They don't believe America should be in decline. "We've had more than our fair share of time at the top. It's not right that we're the only superpower." People don't think this way. Liberal Democrats think this way. A majority of the American people don't. They don't find anything wrong with a powerful America. They don't find anything bad with America that wins. And they certainly don't think anything bad about an America that would protect its borders and make sure the country is not overrun by people who are not interested in becoming Americans.
So whoever comes along and convinces voters that they're gonna put a stop to it and, in the process, save America, I don't think they care whether the person's a conservative, liberal, or a Martian. That's how big the issue is. And that's what I mean by, "I think some of these issues trump whether or not it's a conservative offering the solution." Here's where it matters. To people who are conservative, who are doubtful of Trump, it's because he's not a conservative. And thus, if he's not a conservative in their minds, then what is he?
Well, he's either an agnostic or he is a liberal -- or, worse, he's nothing and doesn't care and is a calculating opportunist will go wherever he thinks the popularity resides (i.e., be a populist), which may be just as bad in other areas while being right on immigration. And so in that sense they will worry that he's not a conservative. "He may be right here, may be right there, but in the long haul we could be getting in bed with somebody that we can't trust," whereas a solid conservative like Cruz who's also right on the wall, also right on immigration, also right on all of these things, is also gonna be right on everything else.
And some people say, "You know what? I don't care? I'm not gonna take it that far. If I hear somebody who convinces me that they're gonna stop this," meaning, this upending immigration, "if we have somebody that's gonna stop this lawlessness, if somebody is going to deal with it and put up a wall or do whatever it takes... The wall is symbolic. If they're gonna do something to stop this, I'm all-in," because to a lot of people, it is the defining issue. If this doesn't get done, then all the rest of what happens in the future is academic because the country's gonna be so altered and changed and transformed and redefined for the worse that it doesn't matter.
Cruz is my guy, but if Trump is the nominee, I will have zero problem supporting him. I say this knowing I will disagree with him on some issues.
I think he and Cruz are the only two candidates that have a prayer of breaking up crony capitalism cartel that exists in both parties. If he does nothing more than that, he will have done this country a tremendous service.
“There you go again”...mistaking a radio talk show host for a political philosopher, teacher, guru, spiritual leader, or your own intellect.
I love @SarahPalinUSA Without her support, I wouldn't be in the Senate. Regardless of what she does in 2016, I will always be a big fan.— Ted Cruz (@tedcruz) January 19, 2016
Trump’s a patriot.
No, I don't care that Trump is not a conservative, I know what he is and how he thinks. He, like me, is an entrepreneur. We don't wear the blinders of ideology. We live by our personal values, the law, and common sense.
So-called conservatives have been given enough time, chances and positions of power and they have squandered all they have been given.
I don't care about Palin either. She's hasn't been in politics for quite some time.
Trump or Cruz, I'll be fine voting for either.
All you folks out there that want somebody that is 1000% conservative just don't get it.
We're way past that now.
The nation's transvestites are now more politically powerful and untouchable than conservatives. Don't believe me? How about a national figure criticize them. They'll be immediately destroyed.
Parents are dressing up their male toddlers in dresses to make sure they don't predispose the kid to being a male.
Christians are literally being jailed.
The IRS is openly targeting people.
And you people want to respond to this madness with a lesson on the Constitution?
Trump has already won. He's saying and doing things that no Republican has been able to for over 25 years. The media's attacks can't touch him.
If Trump does nothing else but stop, or at least slow down, the political correctness poison and the liberal media's ability to destroy somebody at will, then he'll be a successful president.
I like Cruz. I really do. But it doesn't matter that he's really conservative if the media and the Liberal establishment will completely marginalize him within the first year of his presidency. And they will. Am I the only one here that remembers what a miserable failure Bush was?
Cruz will respond with the same tired and failed old Republican defenses: Explanation and debate. Never attack.
I've been watching Cruz for months. He's very conservative, but still campaigns like a typical Republican politician. "Mr. President, I challenge you to a debate!"
Cruz has been under attack for his residency and his bank loans for a week. He's been flailing around trying to defend himself. He's been applying logic, his debate skill, and facts.
And it just makes him look like another typical politician.
These silly attacks on Cruz the past week (and they are silly) have clearly shown that Cruz is yet another Republican that can be very easily destroyed and marginalized.
Trump would have put an end to that crap the next day.
That's why I like Trump. He doesn't put up with liberal media attacks and counterattacks HARD.
No nerdy explanations. No debating these people. No wasting time providing facts and evidence.
Immediate counterattack.

The GOP has screwed us voters from 2000 on. Trump is destroying the GOP, which is precisely what is needed. For that one single reason alone, he's got my vote. I realize there are plenty of "Conservatives" who like the screwing by the GOP. I'm not one. If you like that, that's fine.
I think the proper term should be "Trump supporter". Anything else would indicate your personal bias against those who are supporters of Trump.
But if you choose to go down that road, then individuals such as you are just ignorant assholes......Fair enough?
Conservatives just want their country back. They want an end to political correctness, they want jobs and prosperity back. They want borders closed. Everything else is secondary to making America great again. We have to start some where. We need someone who will not let the media get away with their BS.
Rush is right, Trump is a winner!
Meanwhile, just 12 years before his presidential run, Reagan signed a very liberal abortion bill in California, giving the right to an abortion â six years before Roe v. Wade. Reagan later expressed a change of heart on the issue, and became known as a solidly pro-life president.
I guess Ronald Reagan was not conservative enough for Ted Cruz?
I predict that evangelical Christians will not be enthusiastic voters this fall.
Saw where David Limbaugh supports Cruz on Twitter. Good man.
bttt
After Obama, any stand up Joe has my vote
You can tell by a lot of the comments people make about Trump, and other candidates, that the commenters have no idea what the job of the President is.
He’s NOT Commander-in-Chief OF THE COUNTRY. He’s the Chief Executive in the government. He’s Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces.
He is not responsible for spiritual and moral renewal. He is not a healer. He is not head of any church.
I want the President to seal the borders, eliminate the income tax, repeal the 16th, 17th, and 19th amendments, cut off all federal money going to all churches, and start deporting Muslims—after Congress finds that Islam is not a “religion” within the meaning of the 1st amendment.
Since the 14th Amendment was written to protect the rights of freed slaves, the 14th amendment should be repealed. This would do away with ALL of the Supreme Court’s evil rulings based on the 14th Amendment, including the “incorporation doctrine” and the abortion decisions.
No one here will accuse me of taking direction from Palin.
And that is an understatement.
Her endorsement of Trump doesn't surprise me in the least.
The show goes on.
“Get a ticket to get on the TRump roller coaster now.
Conservative, liberal, GOPe ??
No one knows what will come next from him.
Commit to the surprise in the box and be part of making America Great again.”
Longer term I think we know.
