"Letting the other side know how we planned to fight them was a great deterrent"

All they had to do is observe the exercises that were happening weekly.

As we observed theirs.

Even "Civil Defense".

When I started elementary school in the early 60s, all of the schools I saw were made of either brick or concrete. At least once per month we had a drop and cover drill that the teachers took very seriously.

Today they would tell the kids not to worry about some drill and continue to teach a hate of America.

I’m more curious about Russian and Chinese plans for US targets.

Not me. I'm more concerned about the Washington, D.C. plans for US targets.

The traitors in D.C. are the greatest danger to US citizens.

Three hundred twenty days until Obama’s out of office... Maybe we’ll get lucky and there will be a secret or two Obama overlooked and didn’t give away.

I spent a lot of years in Omaha, Nebraska, home of Offut Air Force Base and the Stratgic Air Command. It was rumored that the top three targets for Sovietmissiles in the United States were Washington DC (I can’t imagine why); Cheyenne Mountain, just outside of Colorado Springs, Colorado and headquarters of the home of NORAD; and Offut.

The saying was “If you see a bright flash, run toward it, not away. You won’t be quite so tired when you die.”

It’s not a deterrent if the person in the White House doesn’t care about American cities being turned to rubble.

I don’t ascribe to that particular viewpoint.

Having a bunch of US cities turned to rubble would kill a LOT of the people who put the President into office. How many Blue states would lose their Democratic base if their major population center(s) were levelled?

And especially consider that the big beneficiaries of that sort of thing would be the bitter clingers in flyover country. Who have access to the food supply and guns.

I don't think it's a scenario that Obama or anyone has given serious thought to, so you are overanalyzing. No one is going to send missiles our way, even if our CIC wouldn't retaliate. I do believe that we don't have the will any more to be credible for MAD to be our doctrine. Maybe with a different president.

Ultimately, if it ever were a realistic possibility, Obama would not mind too terribly a nuclear event that lost a few cities and threw the country into chaos, for it is from such disasters that revolutionaries can overthrow an entire civilization and replace it with another. The Soviets used the devastation of WW1 to gain power; the Chinese, WW2. Obama is sowing the seeds of future chaos with economic disruption, spending us into collapse, immigration off the poor and the violent, and is working to transform the US military into a social experiment instead of a fighting force. He has made great progress, but it is not quite ready.

Just out of curiosity what’s a “SIOP”?

I worked with an older guy that was in air-photo recon and targeting of the nukes back in the fifties. We were at a scientific conference in the early 90’s and one evening ate dinner with a bunch of Russian scientists.

He asked them their name and where they were from. For every single guy he would say something like “Oh Murmansk - that’s where they made the engines for your bombers. Yeah, they were on the rotation of our target list for the A-bomb.”

We could literally return the world to the stone age in thirty minutes or less.

That is Obama's goal, but he wants ISIS to do it over a couple of decades.

Read a book named "Stockpile" a while back that had a lot of info on the SIOP and other interesting stuff about our nuke stockpile back in the day.

Some of the SIOP plans were scary, like reading how the nuke loaded figthers in Europe were to be used. Would have been a free-for-all.
