Totally agree...civil discourse, and thank you!
To be honest, I do NOT have all the facts on any of the current candidates, including Rubio. I do like him, and I think his comments on "immigration reform" have been good. The problem being two-fold: all the illegals that are already here, including in the "sanctuary cities" and under Obama's policies; and then, just putting a STOP to the continuation of those policies, securing the borders more effectively, and keeping track of the visa-holders that tend to overstay.
The second is easier to do. The first is more problematical; I don't quite see how the USA can logistically deport 11 million (+) illegal residents in any reasonable time frame, for any reasonable cost. However, there's no doubt that SOME of them should go, a.s.a.p., and others could be permitted to stay, with a highly restricted "worker permit" or something like that. NO "citizenship", benefits, etc. unless they go to the back of the line and earn it the way everyone else does.
The "line" needs to be changed, too...no one has apparently given any thought lately to how many people we admit each year, from what countries, who wins the "lottery", etc....it's ridiculous, the system we have now, good people wait for YEARS and spend a fortune to try and comply, and now Obama wants to bring in 100,000 "Syrian" refugees!
Anyway, I think "amnesty" is a poisonous word that doesn't totally apply here: it IS accurate, allowing ANY illegal to stay is amnesty, BUT, we need a plan that can actually work.
CLOSE the borders, identify the people, families and children that are already here and deal with them appropriately, and then reform the immigration policies. Stop interfering with Border Patrol, etc.
I believe that's what Rubio would want to do? Legal immigrants are not big fans of the illegals, believe me! I'll continue research, of course!
I may have to buy Keurig Single Cup device for mornings like this, with super Caffeine coffee.
