I remember very early on in TWD, that people just got sick, very high fever. They then would die, and come back as a Walker. Now, it seems to take being injured by another one; but, in the beginning, people would turn after dying from something that seemed like a virulent flu virus.
We are at the very beginning in FTWD.
Nailed it.
A quote from another FReeper: The liberal is the child. All things are new, all things are possible. All is kindness and lovable little puppies. The Conservative is the father who whispers in the childs ear that most things have been tried, possibilities have problems, kindness is expensive and lovable little puppies may turn into mean ugly dogs. FReeper Captain Compassion
Wait, you mean other wives don’t do all that? Weird.
Good points. We started watching LOST via netflix - pretty good so far. I’ve yelled at the screen a couple of times, but not as much as Fear.
Which is way scarier than the zombies.
“A conservative is a Liberal who’s been mugged.”
Don’t know who originated that quote, but there’s a certain truth to it.
The group on FTWD will either smarten up or be culled; it’ll be interesting to see which eventuality materializes.
I, for one, don’t think they’ll end up clinging to their Liberal delusions.
New Zealand aboriginals.
Maddy took a lot of heat for not picking up that handgun. My argument was that if she were caught outside the wire with a firearm, she'd have been shot on the spot. A pistol certainly didn't protect its previous owner.
As a gun owner, this is something we'd need to consider in a SHTF situation; when possessing a weapon will get you killed. There's be times to carry, and times to stash them away.
I don't think we're supposed to like the characters. FTWD is a fascinating view of city people like the one I overheard while in line for the porta-potty at a 10K race. She was telling her friend how stupid her husband was because he liked to shop at Costco. "Like who needs 14 bars of soap?"
FTWD are the people who mock those of us on the prepper threads. And people in LA are exceptionally clueless. I am enjoying watching them flounder in their normalcy bias.
I know that my family was always the type to keep stuff back for an emergency. Now I am an avid reader of post-apocalyptic fiction and watcher of the same in movies. So as the years have progressed my values have changed dramatically. I used to not worry about tomorrow thinking there would always be more stuff produced and I could just buy it.
The millennium thing happened and lots of people around us went bat-shit crazy buying guns and ammo and spending tons of money on canned food. We stocked up more than usual and we did take precautions as far as money and banking goes but nothing drastic.
All my grandparents and great grandparents were gardeners and canned their stuff and kept a fully stocked pantry for emergencies. However my parents fell away from that practice and so did I but i grew up working in my Grandparents gardens and learning how to take care of livestock etc.
As I've watched the world markets and read more about economics in the last couple of decades I've become more and more concerned that reality is not real anymore as far as how our markets and our entire economic system goes. So I've been urging my wife to change our outlook about what we keep around the house. She poo-pooed the idea at first, but I used the "stocking up on sales and coupon deals to save money" tactic and she took to that easily because she loves to pinch pennies. Then it all changed a couple of years back when we had this huge belt of storms roll through the Appalachia area and knock out power for hundreds of miles around us. We were away on vacation when it started and by the time we got back (IIRC about day 4 of the power outage) The Sh!t had literally hit the fan in our area. it was astonishing how quick stuff disappeared off the shelve AND because all the gas stations could not get power new deliveries became spotty and hoarding became rampant. I saw a guy take every battery that a conveinence store had on display and he plunked down a chunk of 20s and walked out the door over the protestations of the employees who needed to write it down. He didn't stop and drove away. And of course no one could call the cops because there was no phones working. By that time the cell towers had lost power because their backups power had been used up I guess. 9We never heard exactly why they quit)
My wife at first could not come to terms with what had happened she said we needed Ice and I should drive to wherever they have it even if it was in another state. I had to explain to her several times that all our gas stations were without power and I had less than half a tank. I had no idea if I could find enough gas to get back home. AND everyone else would be driving out of the area to do the same so even if other places had gas how long would they have it when all the people from our area descended upon those stations to fill up. And then when I explained that we needed the gas for the generator my dad was able to buy to keep our two freezers full of meat from going bad. She just could not get her head around the fact that we were going to siphon gas out of our cars to run the generator for a hour or so a day to our families freezers cold.
By day ten she finally came around and started to get it. She was happy I had bought a small butane single burner mini-stove a few years prior so we could at least heat up soup etc She had ridiculed me for purchasing it and called it my Zombiepocalypse pocket kitchen.
After that episode she totally changed. Now she is all about zero debt and stocking up. It was worth it to bring her around.
After all the books I read and the movies I watched and discussions with friends who are hard-core preppers I was still astonished how quickly it turned to crap and this without widespread lawlessness and riots etc. Even my hard-core prepper friends were taken aback by how quickly the wheels came off.
I figured she did pick the gun up before she went back and was hiding it in the dryer when Daniel spoke to her.
I, for one, dont think theyll end up clinging to their Liberal delusions.
I agree. Political correctness will be out the door by the end of this season.
Got any good recommendations?
Are you offended?
If all the blacks are killed off how many queers or latinos might it take to offset that loss for you in identity quotient speak that is?
Agreed. The Walking Dead is for conservatives, and Fear The Walking Dead is for liberals.
Also: The Walking Dead is in Georgia, so people have common sense and firearms. Fear the Walking Dead is in Los Angeles, so guns and common sense are far more rare.
I will watch Fear the Walking Dead, but I would love it if Rick Grimes and the Ricktatorship group meet up with the Dysfunctional Liberal Family of F.T.W.D. Grimes and company would clean their clocks.
BTW: The initials for Fear The Walking Dead is F.T.W.D.
Backwards, it would be D-WTF.
Which about sums it up.
that and the vampire thing.. it’s re-hash and I’m tired of this kind of stuff. I watched about 1/2 hour of it..pass.
Every time.
Being a black male in any of the Walking Dead shows and variants, is equivalent to being a red-shirt in a Star Trek episode.
I wonder if they accidentally stumbled on a meme and now are just having fun with it.
Writer: "Hey! Let's introduce another black guy! We can kill him off in episode 8!"
Rest of the Writers: "Hehehehe, go with it!"
It is true tho. They keep the black women, but if you are a black male character, you have a shelf life of anywhere from 2 to 10 episodes. LOL
The characters on “Fear” are just fine. The fact that they are oblivious and unprepared is PART OF THE STORY. Who would want to watch a survival TV show about a bunch of preppers?
Samuel L Jackson once said that most of his career has involved getting a script and paging through it until reaching the part that says “black guy dies”
