Amazing!? All these years of working with Mexicans who come up on work visas and I never realized we needed a “guest worker” program

Harder jobs?

Like dying on foreign soil?

This nation hasn’t lost its mind..

It’s politicians and “leaders” have.

Here’s a tip: No more EBT, WIC, section 8 or Medicare.

People will want to work — just to live.

Americans stopped doing harder jobs because rich pigs decided they’d rather employ illegals for third-world wages than obey the law.

By the way, screw you for saying my job isn’t hard work.

Funny white people in Canada do work people in the US will not…Get rid of welfare and they would pick tomatoes if they wanted to eat..

I agree farming is a little different…the farmer might only need people for a couple of weeks…

I have heard this argument for 40 years. And, I am tired of hearing it.

I have a solution. Take away all of the freebies and doles so they have to work or steal to get their daily bread. Stealing ultimately won't benefit them. Starving is a great motivator.

Harder jobs like waving the mexican flag at protests while insulting America and at the same time demanding freebies from American citizens and legal residents?

Let’s stop the uninvited guests first (secure the border) and then we’ll talk. This discussion makes no sense, either yea or nay to the idea, until that happens...none of the secondary arguments do.

guest worker programs used to work quite well for ag workers (pickers) and they could work again. First the mess of illegals must be cleared out at all cost. There’s no clean, neat and tidy solution but I’m so sick of this “we can’t” attitude that’s literally killing America.

Ben Carson just went down a few notches in my book.

“Amazing!? All these years of working with Mexicans who come up on work visas and I never realized we needed a “guest worker” program.”

California had a “guest worker program” in the 1950’s and 60’s. When a few Blacks made it into our legislature, they claimed that the Mexicans who came here under that program were “taking their jobs.” So the program was terminated. Just drove across the Salinas Valley last week at 6am. The “commute” to the fields was in full swing. No Blacks, but most of the Mexican Farm Workers were driving new cars! It’s back-breaking work, something that Blacks decided wasn’t for them years ago.

the component price of produce having to do with labor is about 10%. So DOUBLING the wages you pay someone would only mean a 10% raise in the price of tomatoes. Would Americans be willing to pick tomatoes if they were paid $15-$20 an hour? I have a feeling they would.

Being in the fruit and produce industry for nearly 40 years I know that labor in the price of the end product is not a factor. What is a factor is the cost of processing, freight and ultimately perishability of the product. But there is one other factor in the end price of the product is the economic 'law of supply and demand'. When there is a great amount of supply, the price to the consumer is generally cheaper. There is more to it but time and space constricts.
