Earlier in the year, Homer Simpson posted a clip from the NYT than was the initial reporting of what came to known as Taffy-3 and the Battle of the Samar Straights.
Actually, Homer’s NYT postings revealed more than a few initial reports of what became significant happenings. Coverage of Gen. Anthony McAuliffe’s “Nuts” comment comes to mind (a simple paragraph!) and in my view, writings of Hanson Baldwin from Iwo Jima captured the essence of being a Marine. His writings are essential in beginning to understand Marines.

Agreed. That is a great book and a valiant story.
