There were I believe, 5 middle aged men who died at Sturgis, from apparent natural causes. Time will tell of course, but the Black Hills can be extremely hot. There is often not much in the way of humidity. It can pour rain and a hour later everything is dry as dry can be.
The heat was incredible. You would be fine in the shade, but step into the sun and it was like a sudden burning blanket of heat thrown over you. People radically underestimate hydration needs, especially if drinking. Riding on a bike in the open air is dehydrating in itself as well.

Exactly. I live in the Hills. The temp might say 85, but the sun can easily push the temp up 10 degrees and it feels like you are baking. Lots of water is needed. Guests to the Hills, often get into trouble, because they just don't realize how dehydrated they really are.
It's so different than being in a high humidity zone. You feel yourself sweating and you put fluids in. In this environment, you feel fine, but you can have heat exhaustion and not know it. When I am not paying attention I can easily go 8 hours without having to use the restroom. That is when I really need to step up the fluid intake. If you have had 4 cups of coffee and a liter of water and you still have not gone.... you need to drink a lot of water.

Time will tell of course, but the Black Hills can be extremely hot. A few years ago I rode my M/C thru the Black Hills in August. 107 degrees. Luckily my bike ( Kawasaki 1600) was water cooled. My buddy on his Harley was having a hard time.

I bet! It can be very extreme out here. Our nephew broke down three times while out here. My husband kept telling him to buy a BMW. :)

Uh, no. Why do you ask? Or do you mean redundant? Again, uh, no, I don’t think so.
