I like the sentiment, and I agree. But it reminds me of the “America First” rhetoric that Pat Buchanan came up with so effectively. Not only that, but he was focusing on illegal and legal immigration at the time. He was dismissed by Bob Dole who said it was time for us to choose between the mainstream, and the extreme. In essence, he called Buchanan an extremist. Buchanan never recovered.

I think the only real difference here is that Trump has a $Billion warchest. We shall see whether GOPe rhetoric can defeat such a large warchest.
