Also censored from this story is the fact that it was a black on white hate crime. Whenever there is a black on white violent crime the races of the victim and perp should be reported just like when the Corrupt Liberal Media reports that a white police officer shoots a black suspect.
Forcible rape, according to most criminologists, is a hate crime in itself and with interracial forcible rape the black on white forcible rapes outnumber the reverse by a ratio of 14 to 1. And in this case, which is a sexual homicide, the hate ratio is 48 to 1.

If Kitty Genovese had been armed with a concealed handgun she would not have been a suitable target for rape and murder.I don't think that is quite right. Using the criteria provided by the author, she would have still appeared to be a suitable target. However, she might have been a capable self-guardian.
Now, if most, or even a sizable percentage of young petite women on the street late at night were known to be armed, all of them would appear to be much less suitable targets.
"Target or not" is entirely in the POV of the attacker.

Thank you for the follow up. I think the second part of the story is as horrendous as the first.

This article is making me mad for one reason: there is no evidence that Kitty Genovese was a lesbian. Her roommate at the time decided to say this decades after the poor woman’s death. It’s always amazing to me that old myths like the one created by Abe “I’m writing as bad as I can” Rosenthal give way to brand new ones.

When I was in high school, I along with the rest of my civics class watched the documentary film
The Detached Americans (1964) which blamed the failure of the neighbors of Kitty Genovese to come to her aid on the hedonistic, shallow and "mercantilistic" orientation of society that was generated by America's mass prosperity following World War II. But many of us in the class quickly recognized the film's left-wing bias.

I also think the author is wrong on another point: she drove home from work, parked near a subway line, and then proceeded to her apartment building.

That reminds me of a guy named Massey who got angry after breaking up with his girlfriend in 1965 and took out his frustration on an innocent housewife named Mildred Weiss, whom he murdered in cold blood in her front yard. At the time, it was a major news event in Southern California.
Massey was eventually caught and sentenced to death, but when the death penalty was overturned by liberal judges in 1972, his sentence was commuted to life—and “life” meant six more years. Shortly after he got out, he robbed and murdered a store owner. But this time, the court got it right and put him to death.

The the vastly under-rated film
"The Last Action hero," a bad guy (the excellent Charles Dance) from the fictitious world of crime movies is transported to our world. In his world, as soon as someone shoots someone else, police arrive instantly and arrest the shooter. Alas, in ours, not so much. As an "experiment" he walks up to someone and shoots him dead. He then yells, "I have just shot someone and I want to confess!" Silence. No police, no nothing. He again yells his confession, to which someone replies, "Shut up!" He then turns to the camera and smiles.

He is again eligible for parole in 2015.If that's not a valid argument for the death penalty, then I don't know what is.

Just saying that there is ample evidence that regular and predictable use of the device illustrated below transformed Ft. Smith, Arkansas from one of the worst crime-ridden towns on the frontier to a pleasant community of single family houses, churches and businesses in less than a generation:

Absolutely sickening. I had no idea the perp was still above ground. He needs to be release via a trap door of the device pictured in post #15.
I wouldn't even give him the benefit of singing hymns until after he dropped through.

If Kitty Genovese had been armed with a concealed handgun she would not have been a suitable target for rape and murder. Could she legally have brought her firearm into the bar she worked (in a non-security role) at?

And how many years would you/I get for the ‘careless indifference’...yet the lawyers/judges are held to no such standard (if any at all).
Was it not THEIR rulings that allowed such a crime?
Yeah, Justice is no longer just nor Righteous.
