Makes as much sense to require the Crips and Bloods to buy homeowner's insurance.
No we don’t. We require insurance to drive on public roads, not to own a vehicle or drive it on private property.
Good point.
But logic and truth is never a strong suit with the nation’s gun grabbing socialist Left.
Not to mention that car aren’t mentioned as Civil right - Guns are.
You posted:
“What would the reaction of liberals and race baiters be, if the cops started arresting gang members for not having insurance on their guns????”
Excellent point. Unfortunately, they just condemn the police for not arresting white and oriental folks.
The worst part about that is NY and NJ can’t even get the hordes of illegals here to get car insurance (or licenses, or register their vehicles...); politicians from the northeast have no business pushing for such insurance for firearm owners...
.. a bill that would require gun owners to carry liability insurance ...
The requirement is “infringement”.
___
Yep. Along with CC permit, registration, etc.
Can’t find the place in the constitution that protects my right to own a car....
Using her logic, perhaps homosexuals should be required to have liability insurance.
The only employed left in the future will be insurance agents and the lawyers that sue them.
If there’s going to be a craptastic law,
no exemptions for LEOs or military or anyone. We’re all equal. A LEO or military guy that screws up is equally liable. If facts made a difference CCW folks are better shots, use less shots, and hit their intended target better than LEOs. If anyone ought to get the exemption its the CCW holder.
On the other hand, there’s no Second Amendment that guarantees the right to own and drive a car.
Do we ALSO need liability insurance to exercise our First Amendment rights? After all, lots of people get sued and lose lawsuits related to exercising their First Amendment rights. Not to mention, people Do get killed or commit suicide as a result of others injudiciously exercising their First Amendment rights.
New Hampshire doesn't. Maine doesn't.
In fact, I do not believe that there is any general Federal law pertaining to car insurance.
No, but you can't register or drive it without insurance.
Let me tell you what they have.
Insurance (purchased through a State approved company) is required. When you purchase your required insurance, the "company" reports the purchase to the State. This reporting is required to get license plates.
If your payment is late, they report that too, and the State then impounds your car.
It is not sufficient to get your car back that you pay what you're behind - it's impounded for a fixed interval.
If you are an illegal alien, of course, none of the above applies.
When I heard Pataki crowing about freedom today, I spit up in my mouth a little.
Untrue.
In NH, you can post a bond. Maine requires nothing - I know, because my car was wrecked while parked by a guy from Maine who had no insurance, and when I inquired about the requirement, they told me there was none and he was perfectly legal.
Wrong.
You have to provide proof of insurance to register a car, and if pulled over by the cops, you have to produce your license, registration and proof of insurance.
How would I know this?
Insuring Your Motor Vehicle
Maine law requires every owner and operator of a motor vehicle to maintain motor vehicle liability insurance and to present evidence upon request of a law enforcement officer.
Any vehicle you are operating must be insured even though you are not the owner.
Therefore, you should verify and carry evidence of insurance in the vehicle. Maine law also requires Maine motorists to show evidence of insurance when you register a motor vehicle. Acceptable forms of evidence of insurance include: a motor vehicle insurance card, a letter from an insurance company, or agent that the vehicle is covered by a liability insurance policy, an insurance binder or an insurance policy that has a summary document that describes the vehicle insured, the name of the insured, the amount of insurance (must meet Maines minimum liability requirements), the type of insurance coverage and the period the vehicle is covered (effective and expiration dates) to either the municipal agent or the Bureau of Motor Vehicles.
Failure to produce evidence of insurance when required can result in a charge of uninsured operation and suspension of license and registration privileges. If you are adjudicated of failure to produce evidence of insurance, you will be required to file proof of financial responsibility through an SR-22 insurance certificate or face suspension of your license and registration privileges.
If an uninsured motorist causes an injury or property damage of $1000 or more, they may not operate a vehicle until proof of financial responsibility or proper insurance have been shown. In addition, if a court judgment is obtained, driving and registration privileges are suspended until such judgment is satisfied.
What is it about the phrase ‘shall not be infringed’ that Democrats/lieberals/etc. cannot understand?
