"... unions, led by powerful interests and their allies in government."

Why, Obama accidentally said something true.

I’m not anti Walker by any stretch. However I am very, very suspicious of his sudden rise in popularity. Years of observing electoral politics have left me to conclude that only those candidates who have been completely vetted and approved by our beloved uniparty will rise to prominence.

As for his comments, I found them good, but a bit reserved. He didn’t call out dear leader by name and I think the comments could have been better targeted. That may simply be style. That may be holding fire. It might also be a lack of fire in the belly.

The problem with the anti-Walker crowd is that they lack substance in their claims. All I see are citations of liberal media headlines. Once you read Walker’s actual words, you see that he never flip-flopped on ethanol, right-to-work, amnesty, open borders, etc.

Not one anti-Walker poster can show an action Walker has taken that has been anything other than conservative.

But the liberals know that if they can divide conservatives, they can win. It is sad to see FReepers unwittingly help them.

Pal, read the thread and pay attention. Napscoordinator basically said that people here are rejecting Walker because they are "blinded by jealousy and hate."

THAT is a fact. Go read it.

THAT is name calling and insulting. It is dead-end, it is stupid, and it is arrogant.

It is also exactly like Romney supporters in 2008 and in 2012, who thought that the only reason people would reject Romney was because they "hated" him and/or were jealous of him.

In so doing, they leveled sweeping insults at people who rejected their candidate for much better and righteous reasons than stupid "jealousy and hate." GET REAL AND GET HONEST, TAMZEE.

The behavior of a candidate's supporters speaks volumes about the candidate. I don't know much about Walker, I think he's done a lot of good things and many folks I respect hold him in high regard, so that's in his favor.

HOWEVER, when someone assumes that the only reason thoughtful fellow conservatives have reservations about Walker is because they are "blinded by jealousy and hate," it is a RED FLAG as to Walker's true propensities.

It is an insult for ANYONE to write off an opinion as motivated in "jealousy and hate." You think it is insulting of me to make that clear observation. That is YOUR mistake.

Maybe this is the guy we need...

When Obama leaves he won't leave at all, In a sense, he is Putin's clone and will want his legacy maintained and will do so by his ability to continue to pull strings after he is out of office, with all the apparatchiks he has appointed that are in the bowels of the beast and those who are on the outside as well.

Walker maybe not only be the guy to say No to keeping "Fundamental Transformation" moving forward, perhaps Attorney General Mark Levin or Ted Cruz would metaphorically raise the urinals in his retirement home to keep him on his toes as a reminder to NOT get involved in the affairs of the day....

Yep -- naps, in begging me to vote for Santorum in the primaries, you begged me to vote for a guy who voted SIX TIMES to raise the minimum wage. You begged me for a guy who said, and I quote:

"What was my vision? I came to the uncomfortable realization that conservatives were not only reluctant to spend government dollars on the poor, they hadn’t even thought much about what might work better. I often describe my conservative colleagues during this time as simply ‘cheap liberals.’ My own economically modest personal background and my faith had taught me to care for those who are less fortunate, but I too had not yet given much thought to the proper role of government in this mission." [-----–Rick Santorum, p. IX It Takes a Family: Conservatism and the Common Good (2005)

You, naps, begged me to vote for a big-government politician who is also -- like me -- anti abortion and pro Christian. But those are very different things from being a limited government Christian conservative. Santorum clearly is the opposite, though Christian and anti-abortion.

"One of the criticisms I make is to what I refer to as more of a Libertarianish right. They have this idea that people should be left alone, be able to do whatever they want to do, government should keep our taxes down and keep our regulations low, that we shouldn’t get involved in the bedroom, we shouldn’t get involved in cultural issues. That is not how traditional conservatives view the world....There is no such society, that I am aware of, where we've had radical individualism and that it succeeds as a culture.” -- Rick Santorum

I will ONLY vote for a conservative Christian who comprehends and advocates for LIMITED GOVERNMENT, and who understands that the only "proper role" for government in most of these issues is ZILCH. Clearly, Santorum is a big-government moral Christian. In many ways, and there is much evidence for those with eyes to see it, warning signals are up that Scott Walker is another who has his heart in the right place, but who wants to tweak things.

Eric Latranyi, you talk about claims "lacking substance." Yet there was definitely substance, for example, in Walker's call not very long ago to drug-test welfare recipients? MORE COWBELL, more government.

The real solution, and one I believe Cruz would advance, is to get government out of forced charity (which hence becomes amoral, with taxpayers as forced slaves to support entitled "poor"). Walker's "solution" would only demonize big mean Republicans for refusing to give "charity" at the taxpayers expense to poor drug-addicted victims. THAT IS SUBSTANCE, and it is one of many reasons why I remain skeptical of Walker, and why I take as one more indication that my hunch is valid when I see a Walker supporter acting just like Romney supporters of old, crying "The only reason you don't like him is because you hate him! You're just jealous of him!"

Heed the signs. They are important, worthy harbingers and guides.

I think it self-defeating that you act outraged and haughtily demand respect while you refuse to give it.... you might want to rethink your tactics, especially if you are going to quote Scripture in your tagline.

Tamzee, hate and jealousy are CHARACTER WEAKNESSES and the Bible, which is my guide, warns against them. I am loathe to EVER accuse a fellow human, let alone a fellow conservative, of being motivated by "jealousy and hate" to do something I think is wrong.

You are welcome to go through my posts -- they are legion -- and see if you can find a single one where I accuse someone who rejects my candidate, of doing so out of such mindless character weaknesses such as jealousy and hate. Pride, yes -- that is a character failing that prompts many, myself included, to reject at first a candidate or a strategy, but jealousy and hate? ABSOLUTELY INSULTING AND VILE, and a far different level than mere human pride.

It is a warning sign. The truth -- the hard, cold, overwhelming truth if you actually take the time to READ -- is that ardent Romney supporters since 2006 on Free Republic regularly attributed my and others' rejection of Romney to "jealousy and hate." It was UNIQUE to Romney supporters, while those who supported Thompson, Giuliani (yes, FR had more than a few!), Huckabee, Santorum, etc. etc. etc., those supporters were more respectful of those who disagreed with them.

ONLY Romney supporters so consistently exhibited such contempt for their opponents' motives. So therefore, when I see someone doing the same this early in the game in support of Scott Walker, you had better believe that it raises a very bright red flag.

I am keeping my tagline. YOU might want to "rethink" your interpretation of it.

Proverbs 6:16-19New International Version (NIV)

16 There are six things the Lord hates,
seven that are detestable to him:
17 haughty eyes,
a lying tongue,
hands that shed innocent blood,
18 a heart that devises wicked schemes,
feet that are quick to rush into evil,
19 a false witness who pours out lies
and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.
