HBO Films will likely release it as a video you can purchase as a DVD. While you are at it, they did a movie called Conspiracy, which was a docudrama put together from the only remaining transcript of the Wannsee conference in 1945.
At that conference, they resolved the Jewish Question, which led to the footage in ‘Night Will Fall’.
An interesting set of bookends.
The cast of Conspiracy is top notch. It is a movie about a two hour meeting. It would be hard to think of anything more uninteresting, but it is riveting.
I saw the Conspiracy movie at our public library, available for members to check out.
I would not doubt for a minute this will be available for purchase. It’s too important a movie for it to be otherwise.
There was a better German movie called, Die Wannsee Konferenz made in the 80s, which pretty much was the same thing, only better.
Back in the 1950s, TV shows often showed the horrors of the concentration camps and piles of dead, hauling off dead, so many that bulldozers were used to push them into mass graves.
A few days ago I saw a modern TV show on the same thing. the first thing I noticed was the scenes of the dead were blurred out so you could not visually see the horrors.
Have we become a nation of fainthearts afraid to witness those horrors we saw on TV back in the 1950s?
No.
I remember reading an article about what happened to the concentration camp survivors. Soldiers gave the starving prisoners full meals, which killed many. Their bodies couldn’t handle it. The military soon decided to cut their meal rations and slowly build up to regular meals. Nearly half the camp survivors died shortly after being set free.
Go to YouTube and look for “Memory of the Camps”.
Channel 4 here in the UK (one of the five main terrestrial channels in Britain) has just shown it on Saturday night past, at 10pm. It has garnered a good audience and many remarks on social media/TV forums. Many people have reported being in tears watching it.
It is a superb documentary, shocking. I sat numb for a good 60secs after its finished and at times wanted to look away from the screen. Horrific. But brilliant.
Error: was shown at 9pm, I had to record it on ‘CH4+1’ channel.
Dictatorships are the norm in human history and the only viable option for governing large disparate populations of low intelligence .
Some are benevolent, some are brutal.
Some even start as Republics.
A dictatorship in the USA that neutralized domestic communism, sexual deviants, smashed the tyranny of the Federal Judiciary and destroyed the political class in DC would be a great thing.
In fact, there is probably no other way for these goals to be accomplished.
Have you seen both? I’m very interested in this second German movie you mentioned. The acting in Conspiracy was outstanding. Particularly the SS major who was deputy in charge of Latvia.
I’m going to look for this other.
Now in the mini-series “Holocaust” there was a very interesting tidbit that I don’t know was true or not.
Kaltenbrunner, Heydrich’s replacement, claimed that Heydrich on his deathbed, was crying in regret for what he did, and that Heydrich was a “mongrel.”
I have never read anything that says this was true about Heydrich, although there were many rumors of him having some Jewish blood. Could have been nothing more a result of Heydrich making enemies over the years.
Check out a movie called “The Grey Zone” on Amazon Instant.
No. With respect, no, it would not. Just no, absolutely not.
Cromwell started out that way. So did Napoleon. It's a short-cut solution and it always ends up worse than the problems it intended to solve.
Thank you!
I’m sure this footage would play to packed houses in the Middle East, however the audience would be cheering for the Nazis
Absolutely correct, it is a short term temporary and very effective solution to a problem that arises when the bureaucracy and political class are out of control.
The Roman Empire/Republic had several periods of Dictatorship.
Universal Suffrage is the catalyst for this Republics fall.
A dictatorship will solve that problem, then once things are in hand the Dictator leaves and the same mistakes (like letting idiots vote)are not repeated again, at least for a while.
The time is at hand.
