Where are all the FR Republicans must win at all cost crowd? Why are they not defending their plantation masters that they demanded we support regardless of their previous betrayals?

Tell me again how things were going to be different with the Republicans controlling the House and Senate? How they would stop obama? How they would roll back obamacare? How they would stop the reckless spending? There are some “conservatives” out there who need to decide are they really conservatives or just Republican Party hacks.

"Boehner-McConnell retreat"

This is not "retreat" or "surrender". It's simply what the GOPe actually wants, but can't stand behind and still get elected.

“The party will never nominate Cruz. Even in the off chance that they did, Cruz would spend more time fighting his own party than the Democrats. So what’s the point of that?”

Complete BS.

Reagan was elected over the very same Rockerfeller Republicans who fought him tooth and nail.

Reagan’s personality reached directly to the people instead of through the GOP establishment.

That’s how one wins.

It is not BS. I’m just trying to keep it real. If you’ve been around since Reagan’s time you have to see that there have been seismic social, demographic and structural changes in this country since the 1980’s. Those changes have been deeply profound and we are no longer the same country we were just a few short decades ago.

Step back for a moment and think about the massive size our government has grown to and the fact that it is now involved in virtually EVERY aspect of our lives. With our nearly $100 TRILLION of unfunded entitlement liabilities, we are becoming more of a socialist country with every passing year.

I like and admire Ted Cruz greatly. I would vote for him in a second but the reality is he would be relentlessly savaged by the Democrats, the liberal media, and his own party. (Don’t underestimate the power of the GOP’s entrenched interests that control the party.) And most people in America today are not interested in the themes that under lied the Reagan presidency. They don’t care about personal freedom and liberty; all they want is more entitlements and government largesse. Sadly, few are desirous of being that shining city on a hill.

There are just too many socio-political headwinds against a Cruz candidacy IMHO. You may disagree however he epitomizes principles that many fear.

That’s a pitiful response my friend. Its completely devoid of any serious commentary, insight or facts that would give you any credibility. Your lame ad hominem attack is also amusing in its complete lack of an attempt at thoughtful discourse.

Your oratorical attempt to sound right is squashed by the harsh reality of facts, which you conveniently ignore the way a lib would by saying “different time, different place”.

The overwhelming fact is Reagan was indeed elected against the tide as he found a way to communicate. You say it is impossible for someone today like Cruz to do the same.

Hogwash. And the Whigs thought the same as you: they were the superior party to the GOP. and look where they are now.

If Cruz gets the 2016 nomination I’ll be happy to buy you a Texas sized stake dinner.

Again, I admire Ted Cruz. He is smart and principled; maybe the best conservative out there today. But he’s no Ronald Reagan, who was a very likable former movie star, a two term governor of California, and a great communicator who had the invaluable experience and good will of two previous runs for the presidency. A unique combination of qualities and experience for anyone to go up against.

And thank you for characterizing my comment as “oratorical”. I appreciate the accolade. :)
