You can fire one under 16 with adult supervision, 16 and over you can buy as many as you want (pistol or rifle). Up to (I think) .25. Need to check that one, lol.
I know that for example air weapons come under the same laws as regular guns and you need a firearms licence. The vast majority of UK air weapons are .177/.22/.25.
The UK has no licensing for air weapons (except the heavy calibres mentioned), there are 500000 in Scotland alone. The BASC says the UK has 4m air rifles, not sure how many air pistols, they are very popular, so we could be talking 6-10m air weapons.

That should have read ‘I know for example the heavier calibre air weapons...’.
Correction:
You must be at least 18 years of age before you may purchase an airgun or airgun ammunition in the UK, NOT 16 as I stated. My error.
Between the ages of 14 and 18 you may be given an airgun as a gift. Under the age of 14 you may not own an airgun.
Now that's “real deterrence” when confronting a perp with a firearm. Here in California, my local cop has a double stack semi and at least a 12 gauge (and maybe an AR-15) in his car. May not be as "civilzed" as you Europeans, but it sure is a more effective set of tools with which to deal with armed criminals. And I have a dozen assorted handguns and an AR-15 at my immediate disposal. It's sad to watch the UK sliding into oblivion with all your Muzzies coupled with no means of effective personal protection. My forbearers came from there.
In the U.S., a lot of historic old locomotives were melted down after Pearl Harbor.
In Britain, cannon dating from Napoleonic times went into the smelter. I would have thought, though, that if the Home Guard was being disbanded that the need for scrap metal wasn’t as dire in 1944 as in 1940.

So I take it when you say “we” you are speaking for your entire country and it’s attitudes? I am personally acquainted with several Scots who would take issue that you speak for them.
Again I feel sorry for the UK, because from my perspective, it’s a shadow of it’s former self. It isn’t made up of the kind of people who fought the Germans in WWII any longer. But then it’s a lot the same here in the US today too and it will not end well for either country if our trajectories don’t change markedly and soon.

Sure hope you’re right. I just wonder what that young scottish soldier who was hacked to death feels about your notion that they won’t take over? Unfortunately, we are not far behind you in having to deal effectively with the our burgeoning muzzie population. Now we have Dearborn, Michigan ( home of the Ford Motor Company) a completely Somali-Muslim run entity that is trying to exclude all non-muslims. This idea that you can somehow “separate” the good and the bad muzzies is just laughable. They may not all be interested in swinging the blade, but they all believe in killing all who do not “accept” their “faith.” Both our country’s “leadership” treat the muzzies like they are trying to pick up a turd by the clean end by refusing to call it for what it is, a murderous cult peopled with animals who have been inbreeding for so many centuries that they all have the IQ of an amoeba. Of course, contrary to FR myth, I am greatly concerned about Islam and Islam in the UK. But I cannot support the notion that 4% will breed us out. The figures show that the UK Islam population is levelling out in growth, and will in fact drop to the same level as native/non Islamics UK birth rates. Contrary to the myth, that by 2050 white people will be a minority. Every fact I have seen shows the Islamic UK population will not reach 10%. Let alone 25 or 50.

I don’t think we would accept even 4% let alone 10%. The idea of one in ten here being a muzzie is repugnant to me. I don’t want anyone who holds their twisted “beliefs” anywhere near me. As far as your numbers are concerned for the UK, they could, and quite probably wrong on the low side. Why would you accept even those numbers? Why would you allow anyone who has the expressed desire to kill you and take over your country anywhere near it? Are you really that far into multiculturalism? This idea that we should “diliute” our societies with people who have absolutely no intention to assimilate is self-assissination. And in addition, take in people who are of low intelligence and who treat their women like slaves.

Whatever! He was still a human being. Whether he was English, Scottish, Irish or what have you, is a distinction without a real difference.
I didn’t say anything about them being dumped in the sea, just that they were destroyed. Being melted for any purpose would qualify as destroyed.
