I agree with you. The Southerners
were poorly handled at gunpoint by the Northern gunwielders.
Couldn't have put it better myself.

John C. Calhoun begs to differ with you in a speech to Congress in 1850. He was there, you were not. He was demigoguing to support his plantation owning constituents. Too bad he didn't support the common man of the south who had to do the fighting for the plantation owners to keep them in high cotton.

Your insistence at victim-hood ill becomes you but it’s OK by me ;’)

Wasn’t Calhoun the one the assaulted a fellow congressman on the floor. Typical southern behavior, resort to physical attack rather than due diligence. See Fort Sumter and all the federal depots for reference.

He was demigoguing(?) to support his plantation owning constituents I'm sorry - did any of his opponents in the Congress gainsay him in that debate?

To: kiryandil
Did anyone argue with acorn head on her moon/mars claims? lol

... though the Sumter garrison was getting foodstuffs from on shore. So when Beauregard ordered the supplies cut on April 7, he was ignored and the supplies kept flowing? When Major Anderson wrote his superiors that their supplies were running out he was lying?

Since we’re on to natural rights, here’s a question: Do individuals have natural right of secession? That is to say, can you, for example, declare yourself and your house to be a different country?

Wasnt Calhoun the one the assaulted a fellow congressman on the floor. No, Massachusetts Senator & arch-scumbag Charles Sumner got his just desserts from Representative Preston Brooks, who unfortunately didn't finish the job, leaving Sumner alive to slime Robert E. Lee after Lee passed away.
Of course, Charles Francis Adams Jr. repudiated the behavior of his fellow Massachusetts politician in the address that is the subject of this thread.
It should be noted that Adams fought in the Civil War, as a Union colonel, and that Sumner fought by sliming with his mouth.

Shouldn't blame lie with those who started the war?No doubt about it, you and I just disagree on who that was.

Do you never cease with your inane trolling BS? It appears you have LOADS of experience in the area.

So, none of Calhoun’s opponents gainsaid his contentions in the Congressional Record?

It should be noted that Adams fought in the Civil War, as a Union colonel, and that Sumner fought by sliming with his mouth. It should also be noted that Sumner was crippled for life by Brooks' attack, and cripples are rarely found in combat.
Incidentally your idol Charles Francis Adams was a close friend and admirer of Sumner's.

So you’re not going to answer a direct question, and instead just repeat the ad hominem drivel. I figured as much.

No doubt about it, you and I just disagree on who that was. Bombarding a fort is definitely an act of war.
