As the LAPD experience during the North Hollywood incident made clear, “outgunned” is the operative issue. Exchanging fire with a 9mm when the other guys are throwing 30 caliber rifle rounds at you at full auto rate is pretty much an exercise in futility.

Yeah, as pointed out, you can try to disable the vehicle, but that’s pretty much it. When they have the ability to reach out and touch you before you can reach them, that whole “run away” thing (perhaps styled as a tactical retreat) makes a lot of sense.

French cops carry guns, usually 9MM automatics. In the old days, they used to carry 7.65 autos (.32 ACP but in a different load than common in the US).

So I am finding the "unarmed" part of the story either a misinformed translation, or simply untrue. At any rate, it's hard to believe. If the Muslims were packing AKs and a grenade launcher it is true that the cops would have been "outgunned."

Guns or no guns, there are Muslim sections of the Paris suburbs where the police do not enter unless in substantial force.

I almost did a double take when I first heard (on Fox) that two cops arrived on bikes and promptly left. Then I remembered we're talking France which does it's cops the way England does hers.

This crazy scenario would have never happened in America, but for the sake of argument if the first cops that arrived on the scene in America were unarmed, they could simply ask bystanders for their firearms and in short order firearms would be produced to fight these Islamofascists.
