“WIN”, for “Whip Inflation Now” was a PR campaign started under the Ford administration, it had nothing to do Carter.
Dick Cheney was Chief of Staff under Ford, when asked about the “WIN” button he sported he turned it upside down and quipped it stood for “No Immediate Miracles”.
That’s how real economics work, because there was one Russian “expert”, a finance minister or such, who was explaining to the Russian population that there’s nothing to worry about, they’re not better or worse off.
The logic goes:
- the dollar against the ruble is up
- price of oil is down
- however, the revenues (price of the dollar times price per barrel) would be the same as they were before everything started.
The math would work out if only the world worked on Russian roubles and there was no such thing as inflation
