As a side note to this thread, please consider the following.
If voters had been exercising their voting muscle to make sure that the federal government worked within its constitutional Article I, Section 8-limited powers, then wed basically have the following situation with respect to federal government shutdowns.
Military issues aside, since about the only constitutional power that the states have delegated to the feds which could affect most citizens on almost a daily basis is making policy for the US Mail Service, then all that a federal government shutdown should amount to for most citizens is a possible disruption in their mail services.
Otherwise, most other federal government services that many citizens depend on are actually based on 10th Amendment-protected state powers and associated state revenues that federal politicians stole from the states so that they could establish such services under the federal government. Politicians wrongly promised such services to get elected regardless that the states have never amended the Constitution to grant the federal government the power to establish such programs.
Sadly, the reason that citizens are willing to trade their votes for constitutionally indefensible federal government services is this imo. With all due respect to mom & pop, parents have not been making sure that their children are being taught about the federal governments constitutionally limited powers.
Again, if the states were running many of the government services that the federal government is now running, instead of the federal government doing so, then most citizens probably wouldnt regard a federal government shutdown, arguably little more than a disruption in mail services, as a major inconvenience.
If Obama can use an unconstitutional Executive Order to grant millions of non-Americans amnesty, he can also use an Executive Order to keep the U.S. government open for the sake of 320 million American citizens.
Once Obama signs an Executive Amnesty, he becomes a dictator, and the other two branches of government become meaningless. At that point, Mitch McConnell and John Boehner would be powerless to do anything except whine.
So why is it too much to ask our Republican leadership — Turtle Dee and Turtle Dum — to at least fight back now while they can? They should be holding strategy meetings with Ted Cruz, not schmoozing, as always, with Harry and Nancy.

Shut it down!
The U.S. Constitution Article I, Section 7 - - All Bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with Amendments as on other Bills.
It is important that we understand the rules by which We the People have chosen to be governed. The House of Representatives (nick named The peoples house) is the only place in the national government where spending laws can begin. The Senate can only propose amendments. The President and Supreme Court have no authority to originate a law.
Without congressional approval the U.S. Treasury has no authority to write a single government check! Each body (House & Senate) must eventually agree on amendments before a Bill is sent to the President for signature. Thus The peoples house holds the purse strings.
The Presidents job, as defined by the Constitution, is to execute the laws passed to him by Congress. If he chooses to go rogue, and operate on his own, The peoples house can refuse to fund his rogue projects. They have the authority to shut down the government. It has been done many times in the past.
The only job the federal government has been hired by We the people to do, is to protect our individual lives, liberties and property. Unlike citizens of other nations, we are at liberty under God. We joined together to create a government to protect that liberty from ungodly forces.
The senate is led by evil men (Senator Harry Reed & Senator Mitch McConnel). They have consistently put power and privilege ahead of the best interest of We the people. We should encourage our Representatives in the House not to bow to politically correct politics and to stand on principle. Shut down the government if need be, rather than allow rogue power to govern.
Patrick Henry asked in 1775, But when will we be stronger? Will it be next week or next year? Will it be when we are totally disarmed, and when a British guard shall be stationed in every house? Shall we gather strength by irresolution and inaction?
