This could be a slippery slope. If the curriculum has the goal of learning the Arabic language I don’t really see a huge problem with it. However if they teach anything from the quran or advocate islam then I see a huge problem.

Teach the language not the “religion.”

Hmm, I don't recall a Christian immersion school - I probably just missed the announcement.

The greater Houston region has seen its Arabic-speaking population grow by more than a third since 2009, to 23,300 people last year.

The percentage of Arabic-speakers here is insignificant. The real reason is there one or more islamists at HISD promoting this.

Or an English immersion school. Those are rare.

I don’t really think you can separate Arabic from Islam. It’s what Arabs do.

What about English immersion? English as the national language?

And, if its Arabic immersion, is it Islamist-indoctrination-free Arabic immersion. I doubt it, but who can tell?

What would that come under - Greek, Latin, Aramaic?

My thoughts exactly. Arabic is a language that Westerners should know. Whether we like it or not, we’re tied to that area economically and militarily. The more Westerners who know the language, the better for us.

But yes, there is the slippery slope to worry about.

Is there a lesson to be learned here? Time to wake up!

Australian ex Prime Minister Julia Gillard’s message to Muslims.

Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday to get out of Australia, as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks.

Separately, Gillard angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying she supported spy agencies monitoring the nation’s mosques. Quote: ‘IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT… Take It Or Leave It. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali , we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians.’

‘This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom.’

‘We speak mainly ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn the language!’

‘Most Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right wing, political push, but a fact, because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.’

‘We will accept your beliefs, and will not question why. All we ask is that you accept ours, and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us.’

‘This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great Australian freedom, ‘THE RIGHT TO LEAVE’.’

‘If you aren’t happy here then LEAVE. We didn’t force you to come here. You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted.’

America is a really terrible example of learning two languages

Well, considering our vast land area, vast population and economic, military and cultural superiority to most of, if not all of, the rest of the world, it's hard to see why any language other than English would be advisable.

A multilingual society is a fractured society. Ask Canada.

As usual, the 'help' this person is offering his son is nothing more than an attempt to reflect credit on the parent for being a multi-culti snob. In Houston Freaking Texas.

Houston School districts top 10 languages 11/13/2014 9:10AM

The initiative to increase the number of bilingual students in Texas schools is a slow moving one.

Due to the significant amount of international business in and around Houston, especially in the oil and gas sector, it has become a priority for the workforce to know more than English.

With an eye towards the energy industry, the Houston Independent School District is proposing an Arabic immersion school, which would give children as young at 4 years old the opportunity to learn the language, as detailed in Erica Mellon's report on HoustonChronicle.com.

Houston is one of the most diverse cities in the country. The gallery above shows the top 10 home languages of HISD students classified as limited-English proficient (or still learning English).

Oh, just GREAT! If they leave Australia, you know they won’t go back to Saudi Arabia, or Iran, or Pakistan, or any other Muslim country - they will come to America. The problem is that we don’t have the cahones to lay down the non-sharia law!

There will be a flood of Muslims coming to Houston. Then they’ll demand that the Koran be taught in their schools, and by and by, Houston will have to allow Sharia law.

Herr Gruber is right. We are stupid.

To avoid the “jihadi” problem, let’s require all teachers for that “immersion” program to be either Arabic fluent Christians (Copts) or Arabic fluent Jews.
