Despite popular belief, there ARE places in Baltimore that are still “blue-collar” (i.e., white) as well as well-off places which are basically white.

Why do you think that is?

What I said began with the words "I'm going to guess". This means that what follows is speculation.

Then I go on to say "that the driver had some sort of relationship with the boy she called (either family or personal)". The fact that she had the number of the person, indicates that she knew him somehow. This part is a reasonable conjecture.

Then I add: "and he got the rest of his street gang buddies to come along". She is not reported to have made multiple calls, just one. Multiple people showed up. It is thus a reasonable conjecture that the recipient of the call contacted a set of people to come with him.

They arrived and administered a beating, just on the request of some woman. Normal people generally don't do this. That they did this, indicates that they are people habituated to violence. Whether they are part of a formal gang like the Crips, or just a bunch of violent thugs who hang out together, is unknown.

Soon, Flaherty reported, “other black passengers started yelling for the bus driver to remove the white family from the bus.” “One of the passengers urged the bus driver to use her phone and ‘call them up.’” Then a few stops later, a large number of students board the bus.

Ahh, I had assumed they meant 'call the bus company' or 'call the police' ... It never occurred to me that average black people on a bus would know how to call a 'rent a criminal thug gang' to beat up a young white family.

I don't live near a black neighborhood. Maybe you understand their violent mentality better than I do - but really, isn't that a stretch?

Still it's hard for me to believe there would ever be a bus load of whites, Asians, Hispanics or any other racial group that could tell a bus driver to call up the goons - and have them all there within a few stops to beat up some young black family. Waaaay too creepy.

I don't believe black people have that kind of system in place either. At least I pray that's not the case..

The whole point of being in a gang, is to have a lot of fellow gang members who you can call upon when you need them. I don't know if she knew any of the people who showed up, or whether she had a connection to some senior member who could see "OK, that route passes by where JoJo and his group hang out, I'll call them to meet the bus".
