Democratic [Congressman Major Owens] from New York City . . . stated in a 1995 speech on the House floor that during the African slave trade more than 200,000,000 people were thrown over the sides of the slave ships which carried them across the Atlantic, permanently disrupting the ecology and causing sharks to follow any and all ships since the trade was stopped in the 1850's. This figure worked out to be 152 slaves taken aboard nine ships per day for 200 years to get the total amount of slaves thrown overboard. After reworking his absurd figure down to 100,000,000 slaves, Owens' claim was picked up by ABC News, which reported the claim as "fact".

Last week my car’s gas tank was almost empty, and all that I had with me was a couple of bucks, so I couldn’t fill it.

That was a real genocide, man.

But it was nothing like the genocide yesterday when traffic was all backed up due to highway construction. It must have taken me ten extra minutes to get to work. The capitalist-imperialist brutality was something else.

Lately I’ve been been subjected to a perpetual state of structural oppression and exploitation. When is this genocide going to end?

’ve been in neighborhoods where the disaffected yute walk slowly down the middle of the road, or more comonly, several kids will cross the street slowly, first one then another. You really have to wait for the little game to stop or, as I have done more than once, back up to the beginning of the block and turn.

I've seen this game played on major roadways. It appears to be a game of chicken with the toughs laughing at their wussy friends who refuse (or hesitate) to get out into on coming (white) traffic. I've also seen this game played by thugs who are out there by themselves and making a point of stepping into a lane of oncoming traffic (not merely "didn't see"/distracted, or attempting the cross a road one lane at a time). There the goal seems to be to intimidate the driver into stopping for their superior ass.
