well done - thanks
I don’t think it is being enforced
A UK poster on FR complained that the “Mohammad” report was untrue.
‘twould be good to know what’s really happening.
...the UK is planning a tougher law
LOL!
Unless they end Muslim immigration and deport as many of the radicals that they legally can, then it won’t matter in the end.
The same goes for all Western nations.
In 2013 the most popular boy's name was Oliver, followed by Jack, Charlie, Harry and Oscar. Mohammed was 28th, it was only ever briefly top in London, not the country as a whole.
When you remember that firstborn sons in muslim families are always so named, whereas non-Muslims have an infinite number of names to choose from, that will also obviously make Mohammed seem more prominent than it actually is.
On the contrary, plenty has been done, and plenty of potential terrorist acts caught in the bud as a result. Up to now, however, the law has dealt only with the commissioning, planning or incitement of specific terrorist acts. The proposals May is now making would deal with promoting the ideology in more abstract form, not connected to particular acts. How much that would impinge on freedom of speech will depend on how the law is actually drafted.
Amen.
We should be be ridding ourselves of the HRA anyway, due to the abuse of it by criminals and paedophiles, and its use to further abuse the victims of crime.
No, this has been mooted for some time, before the beheading. The latter has just brought it back to the fore.
Aspects of 3 are a little harsh. A good number of Yanks served in the UK forces during WWII before their country entered it. I don’t think Americans who fight with the Peshmerga should be punished either.
I stand corrected and apologize for the error.
Curious how the “Mohammad” name story got legs on this side of the pond.
UK Home Secretary Theresa May, in an article for the 'Daily Telegraph', wrote, "People who insist on travelling to fight in Syria and Iraq will be investigated by the police and security services. For those who have dual nationality, I have the power to strip them of their citizenship and exclude them from the country."
No need to apologise - as you say, it did get a lot of currency in the U.S., and once these things start they get a life of their own. It’s not the only one of its kind about life in the UK, but I won’t labour the point...
