John Anthony Walker Jr. (born July 28, 1937)[1] is a former United States Navy Chief Warrant Officer and communications specialist convicted of spying for the Soviet Union from 1968 to 1985.[2] In late 1985, Walker made a plea bargain with federal prosecutors, which required him to testify against his conspirator, former senior chief petty officer Jerry Whitworth, and provide full details of his espionage activities. In exchange, prosecutors agreed to a lesser sentence for Walker's son, former Seaman Michael Walker, who was also involved in the spy ring.[2] During his time as a Soviet spy, Walker helped the Soviets decipher more than one million encrypted naval messages,[3] organizing a spy operation that The New York Times reported in 1987 is sometimes described as the most damaging Soviet spy ring in history.[4]
That’s his brother.
Supporters of Pollard on here take note.
But how dumb are you if you were a Lt Cmdr?
These people gave away secrets that cost many American lives and cost billions.
For example they gave the Russians access to flight schedules over Vietnam allowing them to move SAM batteries into place. Numerous b52 were lost because of them.
This is from the olden days when spies, traitors, use to actually do hard time instead of being reelected as President.
People like this are now elected President. Clinton sold us out to the Chicoms. Obama, who is much less discriminate, sells us out to all our enemies, the list of which grows daily.
Or when they are made Secretary of State.
I wonder how they felt when they found out the one percenters within the Soviet Union had murdered tens of millions of Russians, Ukrainians, et al.
“I wonder how they felt when they found out the one percenters within the Soviet Union had murdered tens of millions of Russians, Ukrainians, et al.”
That was common knowledge; they didn’t mind.
Nope, they were out for themselves.
I remember that. We had to reapply for our security clearances to keep our jobs.
We were also told that too many clearances were handed out where they were not needed.
“Nope, they were out for themselves.:
Per former KGB officers this is what the KGB looks for in a person for recruitment -the morally corrupt, self-serving and egocentric. Plenty of these types in and out of government.
Stupid man. He should have run as a democrat for elected office. It would all be peaches and crème from then on.
If born in July 1937 he was 77, not 79.
Oh, that’s his brother.
MICE: Money, ideology, coercion, and ego.
For the Walkers, it was money,
for the Rosenbergs it was ideology,
for Sebold, it was (unsuccessful) coercion,
for Snowden it was ego.
They should’ve been hanged, not jailed.
A retired Lt. Cmdr. is most likely a guy who was passed over for Commander, and not afforded the opportunity to continue in service. Basically, he was riffed out after 20. He may have had a chip on his shoulder. Anyone who retires as an O-4 after 20 years probably did not leave voluntarily.
