Most colleges are less generous with financial aid to foreign applicants than to US applicants. There are a handful of schools who will treat foreign applicants on an equal basis, in terms of financial aid.
However, in a need-blind admissions scenario at highly-selective schools, it is usually more difficult for foreign students to gain admissions to a selective college than for American students. Where foreign students are willing to pay full freight, they may gain an advantage at second-tier, third-tier, and lesser schools.

Right before the 2012 election I believe that Romney told Trump and Arpaio to drop the direct attack on Barry’s BC because especially after the first debate they thought they were going to win the election on the merits. Trump also knew that he had the big GSA contract to develop the old Wash DC Post Office site pending, but that now all behind him and Barry will be a lame duck in a few months as the 2016 campaign gets underway.

My feeling on the matter has consistently been that he was born in Hawaii and claimed to be Kenyan when it came time to transfer from Occidental to Columbia, spicing up his transfer application.
I think it was mostly about getting accepted, not getting financial aid which especially at the time didn’t go to international students.
His double dealing on his nationality came back to haunt him later in life.
We know he's a first class liar... maybe Trump has a point.
I agree with DT, fraudulent foreign student grant applications/awards are the most likely reason for the bizarre life narrative and weird legal maneuvers of BHO.
The born in Kenya narrative worked for 'O' early on ... made him a little more exotic in the eyes of his peers. There's no question he sought (not disclosed yet) foreign student assistance to gain access and funds for his college years.
That narrative had to be abandoned as he gained a higher profile in politics ... this guy is a fraud in totality.
It's time for Sheriff Arpaio's investigators to hold another presser and put the facts on the table ... they have them and the public needs to know.
It seems to me that it would be very difficult to “pretend” you are a foreigner and get into college. Wouldn’t there be visa issues and some sort of official verification (late 70’s)?
