Obituary

LEE, Barry Andrew 74, of Dover, passed away peacefully at home May 6, 2014. Barry was born in Windsor, Ontario, Canada on Jan. 21, 1940 to Alice and Clarence Lee then moved to the Mishawaka area in 1969 with his family. Barry started Bamar Plastics in 1978, a precision injection mold company located on Robinson Street in South Bend. Barry, an incredibly gifted engineer and businessman, had many successful inventions that solved problems for companies including Zenith, RCA & AT&T. Bamar has several employees that have been with the company for over 3 decades. Their dedication has seen the company through many hard times. Barry loved his staff as family. Barry loved cars. He attended the Indianapolis 500 almost every year with family and friends. He was a proud owner of several South Bend manufactured cars including Studebaker and Avanti. He was very interested in all types of technology. He was the first person on the block to install an 8’ satellite dish that received news feeds from all over the world. He was fascinated with radio and TV since he was a child. He took great interest and pride being able to figure out how things worked by taking household appliances apart and reassembling themand later building his own. Barry’s lifelong dream was to become a pilot. He achieved that dream by receiving his pilot’s license. He flew a single engine plane, a Cardinal. He enjoyed entertaining customers, friends and family by taking them on short trips. His interests included fishing, cooking, and a lifelong passion for music. He played guitar and loved to sing. Barry is survived by his sister, Betty Lee (Nightingale); his children and their spouses, David and Karen Lee, Carrie (Lee) and Terry Farmer, Marcia (Lee) and Gary Blackburn, Heather (Lee) and Jeff Meixel; and 10 grandchildren, Carmen Lee, Christopher Lee, Kevin Farmer, Kenny Farmer, Brian Blackburn, Alex Blackburn, Alaina Blackburn, Mallorie Meixel, Hannah Meixel and Gretta Meixel. He was preceded in death by both parents; his brother, Robert Lee; and sister, Nancy (Lee) Capps.
