What do you do with a 50+ male alcoholic, that can’t go half a hr with out a shot of Everclear? This is my baby bro. DT’s in 30 mins. No legal way to get him committed.
My middle sis takes care of him. I’m 65, he looks and acts 100, can barely walk. I expect that phone call any day I don’t want to hear.
But you can’t force adults into treatment, unless you have power of attorney over them.
Thank GOD he has no driver’s license or car. He stunk so bad, she moved him to a small travel trailer behind her house in the mountains of Servile, TN. He ruined her bedroom with his spills, smoking, and no bathing.
“I worked in an ER for years. If you leave something that looks like food or drink laying around, a child will pick it up and put it in their mouth. That is a fact. It keeps poison control in business.”
They won’t drink it down thinking it’s kool aid like they would dope cookies.
Booze and bleach don’t taste like candy to a small child.
Colorado is national embarassment bump for later....
In the old days, they used alcohol tincture.
Simple solution: require all alcohol users to be LICENSED in order to buy or possess or use.
No license no sale, no buy, no use
ALSO
if you have an alcohol user license then you are forbidden from having a driver’s license of ANY kind. (CDL, DL, motorcycle, etc)
one joint and you are incapable of legally driving.
not so with alchol. We are talking about pot, not red herrings.
PS: we already have DWI law regarding impairment and specifically for alchol content based on the chemical action of such liquid.
Pot is instantly incapacitating. Just look at the you tube videos and contless articles which show how post impairs visual and physical acuity with artistry.
Undoubtedly, that is true in most states, but is it true in Colorado (or Washington)? I'm not sure what the law is regarding driving under the influence of marijuana in states where it's legal.
If you are talking about being impared, then that's a different question. There have been studies that show that driving ability is impaired even below legal limits. The question is one of degree. Do we really want to treat someone who's had one drink and is slightly impaired similarly to someone who's got a 0.15% BAC and is severely impaired? Probably not.
Similarly, I am sure that smoking one joint would cause impairement, but how much? Even if smoking one joint causes enough impairment to legitimately charge such a person with DUI, why should someone who uses marijuana be legally disallowed from driving? Do you really think that marijuana users are CONSTANTLY high? Why should someone not be allowed to drive to work in the morning, home in the afternoon, and then smoke a joint without doing any more driving (assuming that you're talking about a state like CO where that's legal)?
Kids eat and drink like they run and jump, the deed is done before the brain reacts. I’m not arguing putting drugs in candy is a good idea, it is a recipe for disaster but kids do gulp down chemicals, it happens every day.
reality states you are impaired.
Pot does make users less able to function in society, financial independence (hold a job), and it ages the body faster.
IOW makes good government dependent democrats...duuuude.
just of added nail on the pot users coffin:
“According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, marijuana is the number-one illicit drug of choice in America. The psychoactive chemical in marijuana, or cannabis, is delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which binds to numerous cannabinoid receptors in the brain and throughout the body when smoked or ingested, producing a distinctive high. Cannabinoid receptors in the brain influence a range of mental states and actions, including pleasure, concentration, perception of time and memory, sensory perception, and coordination of movement. There are also cannabinoid receptors throughout the body involved in a wide range of functions of the digestive, cardiovascular, respiratory and other systems of the body. Currently two subtypes of cannabinoid receptors are known, CB1 and CB2, the former being involved mostly in functions of the central nervous system and the latter more in functions of the immune system and in stem cells of the circulatory system.”
This does not even address the fact that pot impairs glucose metabolism. (just search on the net) No sugar no brain function. (iow democrat zombies)
“I think we can all agree personal responsibility has no place in America.”
Agreed. It’s completely unreasonable to have an expectation that when I consume a substance that it is what the label says it is, that it is at the concentration specified on the label, and that it’s not lethal because it has never been tested. Pretty much anybody should be able to freely sell any poison or unadulterated product as they see fit and label it anything they want to. Buyer beware and every man for himself I always say!
“Once the cops declare the guy at fault being doped-up....its downhill from that point on. Sue the doper....due the shop that sold him the stuff....and sue the state for allowing an accident mentality to be prevalent. Itd even be better if you were a resident from Alabama....passing through the state, and drag them back to Alabama for the entire case.”
It will be the defense attorney asserting that claim, and diminished mental capacity is a valid defense in Colorado. And yes, I would love to see the “legal” pot industry sued out of existence for purveying substances that maim and kill.
Unanimous? Not one elected official had the wisdom and courage to say, ‘Its not the job of the gov’t to keep your kids from accidentally eating pot brownies’?
“Unanimous? Not one elected official had the wisdom and courage to say, Its not the job of the govt to keep your kids from accidentally eating pot brownies?”
Agreed. Nor is it the job of any government to set any standards whatsoever to help give me confidence that when I consume a medication, substance or food product that it is what the label says it is, that it is at the concentration specified on the label, and that its not unknowingly lethal. Pretty much anybody should be able to freely sell any poison or adulterated product as they see fit and label it anything they want to completely free of any government interference. Buyer beware and every man for himself I always say!
You forgot the /s. At times I can’t tell who is standing on the very end of a branch and who is shaking the tree.
And Darwin rightfully kills off the self destructive dopeheads.
All those people bellied up to the bar aren't looking for a buzz?
“You forgot the /s”
Sorry. These nimrods that think no laws at all about anything at all are pissing me off. They’re as bad as the “Progressives” who want to legislate EVERYTHING. There is such thing as the middle way. Of course, that requires wisdom and it’s far easier to simply take extremist, mindless, knee-jerk positions than to actually exercise the grey matter a tiny bit.
