Fred Sanford told Lamont, that "Larry Byrd was actually black, that he was just passin' for white".
Piers Morgan made five simple basic screw-ups.
First, he assumed that agenda-driven interviews would draw fans and stabilize viewer counts. It didn’t work.
Second, he assumed that by stirring up people....they’d watch his show more. That didn’t work.
Third, he picked an entire party-line agenda...assuming that he’d at least pick up that one party group. That didn’t work.
Fourth, he churned old topics continually out...over and over...assuming that a stall old topic would generate new viewers. That didn’t work.
And fifth, he tried to be intimidating or challenging as an interviewer. The Larry King-style of just running a simplistic interview and see where it takes you....was discarded entirely. That didn’t work.
In the big picture of interviewing people....you’d think that Piers would have redeveloped his gimmick after two months...seeing that he wasn’t getting viewers signed up. No...he refused to change, redevelop the show, or evolve. Piers version 1.0 stayed the same....all the way to the end.
Personally, I’d give half the blame to CNN. To pay some idiot this much money, and let him concrete himself to a sinking platform....was irresponsible of the network and it’s money-making machine. I would have called Piers into the office at the end of the second month and told him to change or be fired in sixty days. Evidently....CNN likes losers because they kept him around for three years.
