“Plus, the salt can be sold to cold-weather states for winter!”

Desalinization does not work that way.
What happens is the sea water is forced
through a special osmotic membrane...about
a third of the water becomes “fresh” and is
then used....the remaining two thirds contains
the minerals and salts that were in the “fresh”
third and that water is then returned to the
ocean. There is no pile of “salt” to load up
and sell, just water that is significantly more
salty as it’s going back to the ocean than when
it was pumped out of the ocean.

Evaporate the remaining two-thirds of the salty water then in a special chamber.

My statement stands.

Evaporating that water requires energy....unless you are doing it with the sun it’s not cost effective.
