I worry incessantly about some McDonalds employee spitting on my hamburger

You must live in an area with completely different demographics than around here. That would be inconceivable here, where most McDonalds employees are either community college students working part time or older folks. Neither group is particularly oriented toward food terrorism.

He did not count the sandwiches, had no reason to think there were not 20 in the bag. There are not that many in our office, nor are they dishonest people. You are suggesting that the generous co-worker is dishonest, or the other office workers are dishonest. In our group meeting that morning, people claimed having taken 8 of the sandwiches, and two were left. Someone commented that there were only sausage McMuffins in the bag he brought. He said he had ordered 10 each of sausage and ham. He had no reason to know the weight a bag of sandwiches should be.

How gullible do I think you (”we” = FReepers) are? So you are also suggesting I am dishonest. You have accused me, the generous co-worker, and others in my office, with whom I have worked for many years, of being dishonest. And you have sided with an anonymous McDonald’s worker or workers. I am offended. It is wrong of you to accuse me and people I know very well of deceit. You are out of line.

I do believe you and your co-worker are dishonest. You do not order 20 sandwiches and carry 10 back without realizing it. I think it is a terrible thing that you would attempt to extort the store manager into giving you 10 free sandwiches you do not deserve.

Well, how about that. Incredible. We are not dishonest. We did not try to extort free sandwiches from McDonald’s. Believe what you will. I have always given FReepers the benefit of doubt in such situations, but apparently I need to reign that in, and assume the worst to “fit in” here.

Well it just doesn't seem to have the ring of truth to it - that one would order 20 sandwiches, get only 10, and not notice it. Also, who orders 20 Egg McMuffins in the first place? If you are going to order that many sandwiches, you usually hire a caterer or go someplace other than McDonalds to get them.

Egg McMuffins cost around $3.89 so ordering 20 of them will cost around $80. For that kind of money, you can contact a deli and get a much better quality spread. Nobody orders 20 Egg McMuffins at a time to bring to an office! That's crazy. They will all be cold by the time you get them to where they have to go.

To me, it seems like a totally made up story constructed on the spot in order to make an attack on McDonalds. If we happened to be talking about Burger King, we'd be hearing about how some co-worker ordered 20 Whoppers and only received 10.

It was true. I don’t know how much they cost. They have been advertising a buy-one-get-one-free around here, but I don’t think he used that, since he PAID for 20 sandwiches. We have a once per month group meeting, rotating the meeting leader. The leader brings something to eat for everyone. He brought McDonald’s sandwiches. Some people are more generous than others. We have a microwave oven. Keeping them warm was not a concern, although the McDonald’s is only about 5 minutes from the office.

There is absolutely no reason for me to make up a story just to “make an attack on McDonald’s”. For you to imply that the story is not true or that I would “make up” a similar story about Burger King is outrageous. Think what you will, but I find your whole attitude and your assumptions to be extremely offensive.

A reheated Egg McMuffin tastes awful. You really only have about 10 minutes to eat an Egg McMuffin before it goes cold - now that they've banned the styrofoam containers they used to come in. Even when eaten in the first 10 minutes, it's hit-or-miss on whether or not the sandwich will be palatable.

The orange "American style cheddar" that they put on those sandwiches is of low grade and the egg is often sort of rubbery and often the edges of the "egg circle" are overcooked have a nasty chewy consistency.

I prefer to make these type of sandwiches on my own where I can control the ingredients and cook them properly. Actual fried eggs with swiss cheese and slabs of real bacon, not that Canadian "ham" type bacon that McDonalds uses. Thomas's English muffins drizzled with a little olive oil (or butter) complete the sandwich as it should be made.

So in conclusion, choosing to purchase 20 Egg McMuffins for a group meeting is a very poor choice. Also, I'm still not seeing how you could order 20, only get 10, and not notice it right away. I've also never heard of anybody walking into a McDonalds and ordering TWENTY Egg McMuffins. That just sounds crazy.

Anyway, once you walk out of the store and think you've been shortchanged, it's poor form to go back to the store to complain and expect to get ten sandwiches "for free." It really is your responsibility for checking a fast food order before leaving the premises. How do you know other co-workers didn't take the sandwiches and just not own up to it? Why should the manager of the McDonald's be responsible for the carelessness and irresponsibility of your co-worker to check the order before leaving? How could this co-worker not notice that he/she was only carrying ten sandwiches when twenty was ordered.

It just bothers me that you think your co-worker is entitled to ten free sandwiches in this situation. It's not right.

Well it is nice to know that you are such an expert on all things McDonalds, as well as the routines and personnel in my office. Thank you for all of your insight. Surely your conclusions and advice will be of value to someone.

Thanks, I am glad to see you finally came around to my line of thinking. I am hoping that the personnel in your office can learn from their experience and not take for granted that their bulk order of English muffins would be filled accurately before leaving the store. Coming to the manager later and saying you were "short-changed" ten English Muffins just sounds so lame. How could the manager be expected to respond to such a request? I suppose they could review the videotape and confirm the twenty Egg McMuffins but that seems like such an unnecessary waste of time and resources.

For an office meeting, I would not choose to purchase 20 Egg McMuffins. I would probably go to Panera Bread and get an assortment of healthy sandwiches along with some apples and bananas and maybe a few cups of their healthy steel-cut oatmeal.

Perhaps you should run for office or something, since you seem to think that you have all the answers.

I've contemplated running for office and I know I'd do a great job but I'm not sure I'll be able to get past the social media aspect of my background. I have internet postings (not just on FR) going back some 20 years that my opposition would surely dredge up to make it look like I'm some kind of right-wing conservative/libertarian type (which I am).

I've often thought about how social media will affect political campaigns to come. So far, most politicians do not have a large footprint in social media but that will soon change over time.

Soon, almost everybody will have things on social media that will come back to haunt them later. For instance, that 20-year-old today posting about his keg party on Saturday night along with a photo of him passed-out in a pile of garbage could well knock him out of a congressional race 20 years from now.

The Internet is forever. I would say 90% of anybody under 30 years old have internet postings that would derail a political campaign which means the future pool of political candidates is rapidly shrinking.

Unless we as a society adjust our way of thinking about such things.

One of the co-workers died last week. 35 years old. Married, with 2 kids, one is 17, the other 13. She did not have to die. I expect it will eventually be determined to be malpractice as the cause of death. She was at work a week ago today.

All of the co-workers sat together in church today at her funeral.

It seems that McDonalds and McMuffins are pretty insignificant in the overall scheme of things.

I guess I am in a forgiving mood for the moment, but also suggest that, in the interest of FReeper relations, it is not good practice to accuse FReepers of dishonesty.
