At least it’s another officer and not a random bum on the platform.

Fresh out of Dogs to shoot?Maybe the guy who pulled the trigger felt the other one dissed him obliquely.

will this probationer get charged under the felony murder rule? That would be a logical result. 20 years ago it would not but now it would.

Better info from SFGate.com
Nelson said the shooting happened after several BART officers went to an apartment in a modern complex of three-story buildings to perform a search for a man suspected of committing a series of robberies on BART property.
According to law enforcement sources, the suspect was already in custody, having been arrested recently.
The officers - all of whom wore bulletproof vests, but were not part of a SWAT team - forced entry into the apartment, Nelson said, before "one officer fired a shot which fatally struck another officer.

Dog-faced officer got shot? Or maybe the officer was laying on the floor so his back was an enticing target.

unfortunately, my point was all too often we hear after a needless/reckless shooting/killing of an innocent civilian/bystander that "You & your partner went home safe - that's all that matters!"

BART PD has been famous in the Bay Area for about 6 or 7 years for being a Troubled Department.

looks like he thought he drew a taser...this is why you might want to consider not carrying the taser on the same side as the one that goes bang.

BART PD has been famous in the Bay Area for about 6 or 7 years for being a Troubled Department. BART PD has been "troubled" with reckless killing since the day they were created.
One of their first public services was to shoot a local world class neurosurgeon through the head in the Daly City station because he had a holster on his belt.
His cellphone, in the early days when they were fairly large.
BART started out killing San Francisco's finest.

I was drawing attention to the information which explained why BART officers were searching a home.
It might not have been known to the officers that a suspect was already in custody, but even then, there could have been evidence at the home linking him to the crimes. A phone call to a friend could have resulted in the disposal or destruction of evidence. When they entered the house, they could not know whether or not there might be someone else in the house.
