Only in the last few years did I find out it was an ancient maritime superstition...whistling on board a sailing vessel was thought to encourage high winds and bad weather...

The origional movie plan Sheriff Bart was supposed to be played by Richard Pryor who co-wrote the movie. Pryor's drug use at the time got in the way and Clevon Little got the part instead.
Not a care in the world for president “ I will not rest.”
That is a shame about Pryor.
I loved him and he would’ve been a great sheriff.
