Brooklyn, you truly have a Brooklyn attitude and your reasoning makes no sense.

“Childish attempt...” The rules are set for a purpose—so that others can enjoy the movie experience.

You’ve known me a while but I have to disagree with you. I don’t think Anton is a troll. I also am appalled that anyone can justify, even a little bit, killing someone because they were rude.

Ma’am, if that were true, I’d be shot a hundred times, and could have shot people thousands of times. In my opinion, this has more about him being an ex-cop where a “suspect” dissed him, than an old man who couldn’t take the rudeness any longer.

In either case, none of us are troll for expressing our opinion, except for that Nazi guy who got banned on this thread.

OH NO! He supposedly glared at someone breaking the rules of the theatre. That obviously PROVES he is a MADMAN!

Context matters: a large old white man with a gun followed a young black woman to the ladies' room. There's a problem right there. Even if skin colors didn't influence how she felt threatened. Hell, I'm an old white lady, and I'd have felt threatened and called the manager.

Semi-auto .380.

Bag of popcorn = deadly force?

This guy’s lost it (responsibility, common sense, civility, decency, etc.). He looks to be on ‘roids too.

If his gun hadn’t jammed he probably woulda emptied the clip into him -and the wife too!

You are correct, here, except, the blanket statement made previously was incorrect, and I thought needed further clarification. I am neither defending the shooter here nor the victim. Despite my disgust with these kinds of people like the victim in so many venues, the cop will be in prison after this is all over with, and rightfully so.

"Likewise he’ll be equally hard-pressed proving that he didn’t go in there, armed with a gun but did not intend to harm others".

Just wow....that is perhaps one of the most anti-second amendment statements I have every read by a FReeper and I've read some.

"The fact he struggled with the deputy and the gun jammed on subsequent trigger pull(s) just adds more to his culpability".

I've read nothing saying he pulled or attempted to pull the trigger more than once and depending on the make and model of the pistol it might not be able to proven with any certainty. Further I have not heard if the off-duty (and not uniformed) Deputy even identified himself as a police officer before struggling with the elderly gentleman for his pistol.

If he clears his physical he’s going away for a long time.

Do you think we could give him a trial first or should we just put him away on your say so?

How could the victim be a threat? He threw a bag of popcorn at Reeves.

POPCORN! Oooooo, dangerous!

Are you ignoring that it might never have happened? Talking to a reported is not sworn testimony. Let’s see what the real testimony is and how it holds up to cross examination.

But, on the bright side, he obviously died doing what he loved, pissing off other people.

You would know.

Reeves to other cons: “He disrespected me with the popcorn, so I had to kill him!”

Other cons: “You’ll do all right in here, bruh!”

Do guns jam after the trigger is pulled, or when the trigger is pulled. We know the gun was fired successfully once. Did that cause the jam or did the next trigger pull cause the jam.

I’m asking because I don’t know, but if the answer is the latter, then it can be known that he did attempt to fire more than once.

I still would like to know why you think a history of theater altercations involving texting helps the defense (unless they are going with diminished capacity).

Anton.Rutter accused a FReeper multiple times of "making that up" in post 241 regarding reported events. Unless Anton can cite sources that refute widely reported events, then I stand by my Troll descriptor. There is a lot of misinformation (e.g. Reeves left the theater to get his weapon) being stated as fact to support personal agendas.

I also noted Anton's 8-30-2013 sign up date. A retread or what?

I posted some links above which should provide some clarification. It was a .380 semi-auto which jammed on the reload.

Ever known a LEO to only fire once?

Nothing is as ‘anti-second amendment’ as a CCL holder blowing away someone in a theater over a civil disagreement. A bag of popcorn and words is not gonna satisfy deadly intent. He needs to do severe time to protect responsible citizens’ constitutional rights.

This is interesting from the TB Times:

Pasco investigators believe Reeves had the gun with him when he first entered the theater, which has a ban on weapons.

believes??? Interesting that he would address that point and still not be able to say for sure one way or another.

And then this:

which has a ban on weapons

Would that include retired excops???

The report states the gun was jammed. It does not say “on subsequent trigger pull(s)” as you stated in your post. A jammed weapon is just as easily identified when, in the course of acquiring possession of a firearm, the chamber is routinely cleared for safety.

You’re welcome. We really ought to keep in mind this is very early in this case and a lot of speculation and bad info gets passed around.

For very nearly the ultimate example, remember all the really inaccurate info released in the Zimmerman/Martin case. Though this one isn’t nearly as political. Fewer people care if one white guy shoots another. Almost as few as when one black guy shoots another black guy.

So? Move over a few seats. One of you stand near the door. There are options.

“It is reasonable to ask someone to stop texting in a theater.”
“It is also reasonable to speak to management if they fail to stop.”

But in no case is it reasonable to shoot a young father because their texting annoyed you. Even if they threw popcorn or cursed you.

...example, shooting at a bank robber shooting at you, but you miss and kill a child a block away...that's murder

No its not. It is at worst, neglegent homicide or involuntary manslaughter. BIG 'EFFIN difference.

We paid $200 for a pair of tickets to a sold out concert. Nowhere to move when three self-absorbed social media addicts were seated in front of us. We didn’t pay $200 to stand near the door.
