These were apparently hyped by Pitt and the media as "environmentally friendly" homes because of the type of wood treatment used.

See what happens when you worship the earth?

Typical feel-good program: all show and no substance. And when the whole thing falls apart, the liberal never takes the blame. It’s always someone else’s fault.

I have been involved for several years with organizations that donated THOUSANDS of volunteer hours helping people rebuild from Katrina, Hhugo, etc in NewOrleans, Biloxi, Bridge City.

There was a lot of trouble with Chinese produced wallboard that flooded into the rebuiilding areas. I have no doubt that many of the problems in any rebuilt area are due to the quality of the materials, plus the mold/rot that we saw in houses because they were submerged for days in brackish swampwater before the land was habitable(?) again.

While the rotting wood in few houses has been replaced with yellow pine, others are still waiting for their turn.

Sounds like they are working on it.

I’m not saying this is the case, but home owner’s maintenance can keep a house looking new for years.

If there are mushrooms growing inside the house, obviously there’s a moisture problem. A little bleach will stop that.

They used a relatively unheard of wood treatment process called TimberSil out of California. This is a FIRE TREATMENT process that claims it also protects against rot.
It is promoted to be more environmentally friendly than other pressure treating processes such as ACQ or CCA. Obviously, it does not work. This is the problem, somebody wanted to “be Green” and got sold a product that does not work. Now they are paying for it. The lawyers will sort it out.

“The wood turned gray and it was also black,” a homeowner,”

Black mold, built with framing that was previously wet. I bet the nails are rotting through also. If they don’t rot apart, they’ll fall apart.

I recall an uproar a few years ago when substandard Chinese sheetrock was in use. Lots of this stuff was used in repairs in New Orleans. There was a shortage of good U.S. sheetrock so the Chinese crap was imported. That Chinese stuff released lots of toxins, and fell apart quickly.

He must've hired Mr. O'Reilly to build them.

Brad Pitt secretly want’s to be cast as Francisco d’Anconia in Atlas Shrugged Part III. These houses were built in an unofficial development called “San Sebastian Estates”.

I’m guessing maybe that these were meant to be temporary shelters and permanent dwellings?

If these homes were built nearly ten years ago and they’re just complaining now, then the moisture damage is cumulative. It’s a damp area, much of it below sea level. Do these people believe a house just takes care of itself? Where were they when the issue with moisture first began to manifest? As putative homeowners, they do realize that it’s their responsibility to repair a leaky roof, leaky plumbing or a damp crawlspace, do they not?

Oh, who am I trying to kid. Of course they don’t expect to have to maintain their own houses. They’re victims in waiting, somebody else has to not just pay for it but do it for them.
