Yes, I’m sort of crossing a line in that I’m dissing other people’s form of entertainment just because I don’t like it. Sorry about that.

I don't have cable/satellite TV and the 22-minute DD episodes I've seen were on DVD from our county lending library. So, I'm not a fanatic about watching the show.

That said, from your posts on this thread about your 15 minutes of watching one episode, it's evident to me that you are still in the dark about what the show's appeal is and what it's actually about. Especially your line that indicated you'd rather DO what they do than just watch.

Might want to consider watching another episode or two before posting how much you don't like DD.

My favorite Jace quote: “You mean there actually exists an association who’s sole purpose is to tell me what I can and can’t do on my own property — and I PAY THEM for it?

Chris Wallace appeared on the Mike Gallagher Show and told the host that he’s a huge fan of Duck Dynasty and never misses an episode.

I like Chris, but frankly would never have spotted him as a regular DD viewer.

I listened to the whole show while I did some photo editing. To be blunt, the reason I posted on this thread is because it is not just that I didn’t like the show. It was physically painful for me to watch. Kinda like watching a stand up comedian bombing, and his show is 45 minutes. It hurts to watch it. Another example is bad karaoke (this speaks to the non-actors attempting to sound “real” when the events are scripted or contrived).

That is the kind of experience it was to me. And I use the pro-wrestling analogy because the fact that it is not real is why, as a 7th grader, I couldn’t get into it. It just looked corny. Which is how DD looked to me.

But some of my favorite forms of entertainment are no better, so to each his own. You can’t always explain why you like some things and don’t like others.

No personal offense taken whatsoever. Now get out there in the timber and rustle us up a few squirrels to go along with the biscuits and gravy. A few duck breasts would be even better. Merry Christmas cuban leaf!

Seriously, you need medical attention. Good grief, Charlie Brown! -30-

You ever hold on to a small dog while someone turns on a hairdryer in front of it for the first time? The dog desperately wants to get away. It is an almost uncontrollable urge.

It’s how I felt watching it, though slightly less acute.

I didn’t like DD at first, largely because it was completely contrived. Then I binge watched a bunch of shows and now I love it. Rather than a reality show, I consider it a sit-com.

Same thing happened with me regarding REBA. My wife got a season on DVD and I hated the premise. I mean I REALLY hated it. Still do, actually, But we have all six seasons and the show is funny as he!!. I’ve seen most episodes three or four times. But they have real actors and real scripts.

Phil went to LSU, played quarterback and has a PHD.

Phil is great, but he does not have a PhD.

He has aBachelor's degree in Physical Education and a Master's in Education.

Now I'm convinced you're putting us all on. Good one, cuban leaf! Very good joke on us.

I can understand. The whole format and style of the “reality show” genre, with its weird, self-conscious contrivances was indeed a barrier for me. Those things I’ve always found to be a turn-off. So it took some concentrated effort on my part to get past this, in order to appreciate “Duck Dynasty’s” virtues and humor. But I did, and the series has given me some memorable laughs. Something the rancid network sitcoms haven’t done for me in years and years.

Your situation reminds me of my reaction to “stand-up comedy” of the past three decades or so. I NEVER laugh at the modern stand-up comics. They don’t amuse me at all. They leave me so stone-faced. Maybe it’s a stylistic thing; I don’t know. Yet I love comedy, and have a library of dvd’s from WC Fields to Laurel and Hardy to dozens of classic sitcoms.

I don’t like stand up either. That being said, a few years ago someone turned us on to Jeff Dunham and we ended up buying two of his DVDs and have watched them multiple times.

I KEEL YOU!

I don't think Si actually graduated from Tech...

As Phil had said Si was the only one without a degree and followed with:

"Look deep into the eyes of Si Robertson, there's no degree in there." - Phil Robertson

The Christmas show was the worst Duck Dynasty episode I’d ever seen. And I say that being a fan. I could see them slipping into the stupid stereotypes of modern society where the man is portrayed as a bumbling idiot and the female is portrayed as the much smarter and more together person.

And here’s the thing, the guys can act, or perhaps it is that their persona’s are so interesting that it makes the show interesting to me. The women, not so much.

Korie is stiff as a board and always harping at Willie about something.

Jase’s wife is always playing the pissed off wife who tells Jase off about something.

Jep’s wife Jessica LOVES the camera but she isn’t content to just be there like Jep is and be herself. She constantly overacts.

It wasn’t always like that, but the Christmas episode clearly shows the WORST of Duck Dynasty so I can see why you wouldn’t find it enjoyable.

Personally speaking, the earlier episodes were funnier and interesting. I see people I know in those characters and I love the way they show real people using guns quite frequently. I like that it’s in the liberal left’s face that way.

But as time has passed, the humor was becoming strained and crass. Didn’t care for the gambling episode or the wine episode.

Recent events were probably the best thing to happen to them. They were over merchandised and Willie allowed their face and likeness to over-saturate the market. They were becoming caricatures of themselves. But now they have a different issue to be famous for and middle America has embraced them.

I still like the show, I’m just picker about which ones I watch. And I totally support what Phil said.

But I totally understand your thoughts on the Christmas episode.
