if you care about your paint finish you would stay away from any bunch of cheerleaders with the intent to “clean” your car with a bucket of water and brushes that contains the filth of the 50 cars that went ahead of you.

as long as biodegradable cleaning products are used, run off from the car wash into the storm drain system should not be problem for natures inhabitants in the creeks or the plant life - they will break down before any systemic calamity from their discharge occurs

The truly interesting thing is that since we've banned detergents from going into the ocean, marine productivity has fallen. You should see the difference between tide pools from when I was a kid and today; there's no comparison.
If you feed the base of the food chain, you get more food.
