The ObamaCare web experience and design actually reminded me of cable TV company websites. Ever try to find the cost of adding a single service? Ever try to drop a service? Find the impact of upgrading a service on your total bill?
In most cases they make you go through the order process, prevent you from seeing all the options, and then at the end you can get the price. If you don’t like it, cancel out and start over.
Of course, cable TV operators are mostly monopolies too, granted by the government. Thank goodness we at least have satellite and internet options (of course I have to work with the cable company to get my internet connection).
IIRC Social Security was one of the first large scale implementations of systems from a company called IBM.
They should’ve offered “free shipping”.
These are great!
Such explanations are at best only a piece of the puzzle. America also said, with its viewership, that it would accept this sort of bread and circuses. There has been a partial rebellion in recent years with the advent of Fox. It isn’t perfect or even nearly as good as it could be. The internet also allows more information leaks to be plugged with foreign media as close as a web browser. Good again gets a late start, but beats out evil in the end.
We just have to decide which end of the gun barrel that we’ll be on. I have already chosen.
The destruction of the education system has left independent thinkers as a distinct minority that has little hope of regaining control; any idea of being able to assimilate into the larger culture is gone.
My family lives as though we are on an assignment in a foreign country.
