Wait, suddenly NPR gives a rat’s *ss about the government squandering money? Spare me.
The objective of this “article” is to tie e-cigarettes to traditional tobacco products. E-cigs are in their crosshairs.

Moore says money that was spent on tobacco prevention has helped reduce teen smoking by more than 50 percent in just five years. Adult smoking has been reduced by about 25 percent, and he says it is that way around much of the U.S. as well.
Can anyone back that up? When ever I see number in print, I don’t believe them anymore

There’s no end to do-gooderism in the USA, the land of the lawyers, by the lawyers, and for the lawyers. You have a right to a risk free life, if anything upsets you contact a lawyer and sue.

As a (former) smoker who paid through both nostrils for the tobacco "settlement" I witnessed the affect in Oregon. The state did install a half hearted and barely marketed "anti smoking" program giving cheap or free nic patches to those willing to jump through a couple of hoops but there is NO WAY the state's expense for this came anywhere close to the huge amount of revenue the state gained from the payoff. The balance (probably at least 99% of the revenue) went into union represented taxpayer supported employees' pockets, minus the share for their money launderers.
I would LOVE to see the result of a study per state which calculates the (millions of) dollars per ex smoker who was helped to quit with the aid of those "programs", and the ultimate destinations of the funds not directly used for that purpose.
Really.

Electronic cigarettes, being the most successful stop smoking aid in the history of the world, certainly are in the crosshairs of the looters.
Before they put the grab on, I bought a year's supply of concentrated nic juice and the other stuff needed to make my own stuff. If it becomes more a certainty, I will buy some more.
