I’ve been to the cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer. It is the cemetery that this article is referring to. It, like many other monuments that have been deliberately closed, is a FREE, OPEN AIR memorial.

They are trying to make this as painful as possible so that the people know how much we need them.
If anything, this whole shutdown makes the greatest case that could be made against Obamacare. When the next shutdown comes along, government having this type of power over healthcare is just going to make it THAT much more painful.

Did they reuse the original (now rusty) barricades or did they have to put up some 21st century barrycades?

That is total, unmitigated BS!! Those, sacred places have been paid for a million times over by the first drop blood spilled on those lands.....The Federal Government DOES NOT OWN a damn speck of that dirt, or any other Park, Forest, memorial, ETC........WE THE PEOPLE own this country.....it’s about damn time we start taking it back!!!

I hope the French tell him where to get off just like Wisconsin did when Department of Natural Resources refused to close the Wisconsin parks

Words fail. At least words that can be openly spoken here.

It looks to me that the government of FRANCE and its people are showing more reverence and respect to our honored dead than does their own government.
Wait, it is NOT the GI’s government. Their government has passed into history. Personally, I miss it.

We’re taking a river cruise to Normandy in April. This cruise is costing a pretty penny so I’m sure that anyone on any of the cruises taking place right now must be fuming.

"It looks to me that the government of FRANCE and its people are showing more reverence and respect to our honored dead than does their own government."
Don't be mistaken. The Cotentin Peninsula is excellent and the majority of the French that live there are extremely friendly to Americans. I've had nothing but excellent experiences with French natives everywhere from Cherbourg all the way to Caen. Paris, on the other hand, might as well be on another planet.

If I had a loved one buried there, they'd have to shoot me to keep me out.
