Leadership is hard. But it's also perfectly natural to wonder where this leadership was on any of a dozen other issues in the past.
Party discipline is a worry for me on this. Like you, I like the strategy but I do wonder if the leadership and whips will work as hard to keep moderates in tow as they do to flog conservatives. But if they can keep it together, Zero's governing power can be crippled.
Why waste a penny now when the MSM is doing our work for us?
I agree with your conclusion that the Pubbies are actually winning even though the MSM is cheerleading for the dems. Eventually the House GOP’s “one step at a time” and Fairness message and the screaming over-reaching dems is going to soak in.
true,
I think TV ads by the GOP would really hurt right now
If nothing else, it looks bi-partisan to me.
Does this mean some of the lib dims are terrorists too?
Perhaps another sign that they are hearing from their people back home?
Agreed, the leadership is covering every marginal district across the nation. It’s rare that a single topic or issue, particularly one conservatives care about, galvanizes across every district. King (NY) freaked out a bit, but I think he got slapped good today.
Boehner proved that he has the votes to control the House. That sends a very, very clear message to Obama and Reid: Deal now or suffer.
The government is the Democrats constituency. How long will a welfare mom go without her check on the 3rd of the month?
DC is shut down and it’s their own tax money they’re spending. How long will that be tolerated?
This deal is over come the weekend. The Dems will break on the little bills, then the garbage starts piling up, etc. The Dems know their up against it. They only have one answer to the nations economic woes - more debt and spending. Without that, they’re not a party any more.
I think Boehner’s very, very sharp.
Hopefully, more than a little bit.
We sometimes speak of how conservatives need to reclaim the Republican Party. This is the kind of goal-line stand that can help make that sort of thing happen, if the will exists to see it through.
I think Boehner understands that his Speakership is on the line now. The conservative caucus has its heads on the proverbial chopping block here and they won't stand for a cave by leadership now.
Correct. House Dems already broke for cover. They’ll break all the way tomorrow. How can they not fund the VA or DC or the National Parks?
Keep in mind that so far the National Parks are the only unfunded federal service people are mad about?
When a liberal is screaming at you, then you know you’ve won. More flack, means you’re hitting your target. Where’s Obama the statesman, above the fray? Remember No Drama Obama? That was a lie even then.
I think you’re right. One thing too few FReepers recognize is that you need RINOs. America isn’t conservative through and through, but winning close elections gives you control over the agenda, committees and votes. That’s critical.
Are RINOs going to be switch hitters, yes. That’s the nature of it, but if you plan your legislation wisely you can win over and over again. The Senate is a bit different, because each one is a POTUS-in-waiting, but it was meant to be slow and aristocratic.
The fundamental issue is overreach. The Dems did it with Obamacare. It was a stupid bill that hurt them in the long run. We didn’t get here in one fell swoop. Liberals used incrementalism over a generation.
They’ve lost a ton of advantages - voter fraud, the Internet information highway, and the bad economy. When people are hungry and scared they want to be helped. We’re at an inflection point where that help, if packaged correctly, is via the free market. If we choose our battles wisely and get the economy going again, we can be a majority party for a generation.
The people don’t want a revolution, but incremental conservative change that brings government back into its Constitutional bounds while the economy hums along. Brother, that’s a winner.
Boehner IS doing right by us this time.
Letting the RINOs hide from a vote on the Senate’s CR is something I’ve criticized, but he’s much smarter to do that for them so they can vote for these mini-bills. And bringing them up again in regular order so a majority can pass them means the media will have to report them.
Many here are wondering what the catch is in what Boehner’s doing or, like me, wondering where this guy has been LOL!
I can’t argue with a single thing you’ve said. So I won’t even try.
While we work to elect conservatives wherever we can, sometimes we need the cards to fall our way with RINOs and moderates who drive us nuts. And when they don’t, we can work for better candidates for the cause.
Right now, though, the House does appear to be standing its ground and I for one never thought I’d live to see the day. Whether that lasts more than a day or so nobody can say but it’s clear to me the Republicans are very close to victory of epic proportions since, as you said, Boehner has shown he has the votes to control the House.
Good point.
He has a show?
Thought it was an infomercial for ridiculous products
His support for Romney will not be forgotten
Thanks, that’s what I thought- the Huffpost garbage.
Means nothing, takes 17 to pass a Dem bill, won’t happen anyway.
Obamacare is TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION.
Obamacare has nothing to do with care, health or medical treatment.
Obamacare has everything to do with a mandatory insurance that everyone must buy at the point of the Federal gun.
Obamacare Medical Insurance premiums are under the control of the IRS.
These insurance premiums can be raised every year by the IRS with no involvement by Congress.
Thus, all the present and future Democrat rulers have to do is tell the IRS how much taxpayer dollars need to be forcefully extracted from the taxpayers, and the IRS will extract the money for them.
Hence, Obamacare Insurance is taxation without representation that Traitor John Roberts of THE NINE SUPREMES has ruled it to be above the control of the US Congress, and it will stay until Obamacare is ABOLISHED!
KEEP it shut down so America can see just how useless the 800,000 furloughed federal 0bamabots are.
So
164 of the 197 Democrats voted against the veterans funding bill.
163 Democrats voted against a measure allowing the district of Columbia to temporarily determine its own spending priorities.
And 175 Democrats voted against a bill funding 'National Park Service operations, the Smithsonian Institution, the National Gallery of Art, and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.'
Boehner got Obama to cut the growth in spending, NOT raise taxes on 99% of Americans, and do the sequester.
I know many here hate him, but he's got a terrifically tough job (so easy to criticize when one is not in charge) and I appreciate his not giving Obama everything and his grace under pressure.
