Could he do more signings that people could order early and then if they want to meet him, he could take a few moments to chat with each person and/or get his picture taken with him?
I got a signed book by Newt G. and he had a long line. Two women went down the line and asked how they wanted it to say on Newt's inscription -how the client wanted it to be signed. They wrote that on yellow stickies, stuck it on the book and that allowed more time with Newt and the lines went pretty quickly.
When you are standing in line and start fumbling with how you want it signed, time gets eaten up. With Newt, at a B&N I think, there was time for a short chat and photographs taken with cell phones.
Very civilized and he is very funny!
(Hope this isn't a second posting here - I was intently listening TGO!)
